Title: Halloween Display - Lorde Royals
Post by: TitanBry77 on November 05, 2013, 09:44:51 pm
Hey all,

Long time lurker. Thought I'd post a video of my favorite track from my 2013 Halloween show. First year doing pixels and 2nd year with RGB. Read a lot of great posts on here and did all the pixel effects in Nutcracker.

Check it out.

Great job! What software did you use to sequence with?

Wow, you did do a great job, the sequencing is tight man, really tight.  I greatly enjoyed jamming to the songs and you really are spot on!

Congrats, cannot wait for the christmas light show.

I really need to take more time in my questions.....you did the pixels in nutcracker! Did you use another sequencing tool as well? I've in the past take a HLS file with my signing sequence and exported that and then overlayed rgb effects in nutcracker but in doing that I lose control over all the other non-rgb effects and elements.

Thinking about just using xlights to create effects and then bring into HLS but still not comfortable enough with the software.

Tips/tricks on what others do is appreciated - but maybe I'll post into a different thread and not hijack this one. Sorry. Great job with the pixels.

No problem.  What I did was for the pixels I did them in Nutcracker and just created a bunch of the effects I wanted to use and then exported them as a LightORama clipboard.  Then for everything else I use LOR S3.  I created a timing grid I wanted to use for the pixel props and then load the clipboards in to LOR.  Then I went to where I wanted that effect in the song (and it's escaping me now) but I think the paste option I use is "Paste by Time"

I definitely couldn't use Xlights/Nutcracker to do the whole thing, mainly just used it for the ease of making effects, chases etc, then use LOR for everything else.  For the mouth movements I use Papagayo and then export to LOR clipboard as well. Hope that helps some!

Helps plenty! Thanks!! I haven't looked much at LSP or S3 demos....I just spent the last 2 hours picking ouy songs for this year's xmas show. I have a very optimistic 10 songs to sequence so knowing my options is really good. I just need now to go head first into one sequencer and not look back.

No problem, I learned this stuff a few years back on LOR S3 so it's just kind of stuck, I tried HLS and LSP earlier this year and it was just too much learning curve since I was accustom to LOR already.  Nutcracker was tough to get as well but once I got it, I had that AHA moment when it all made sense lol.

I love the random effects in nutcracker...but now I'm dealing with my ADD....trying to get a single vertical strand of 90 LEDs to sync with Carol of the Bells (with audacity timing marks even). There are just way too many effects available...trying to get 10 that look really neat and use them over and over shouldn't be that hard.... but it is :)

I've spent a couple of hours watching the video tutorials on LSP and starting to think I might understand it, now to put that into practice.

I played with xlights for a few days and ran into the single strand bug, not sure if you can bring affects from nutcracker into lsp.

Thank you!  Starting on Christmas now. I didn't used to be much of a Halloween guy until I had kids. Now I think I'm bigger in to Halloween then them. I have to say you can get more creative with song choices. I think I have a tougher time doing Christmas now.

Oh it's definitely tricky. You just need to pick a handful and then use them in key parts. Sometimes less is more.

I ran in to that single strand bug too. I hope he gets it straight because that could be a very useful effect.

Thank you, for the color wash I am also using Nutcracker, I can't remember the exact effect name, I think it is either Bars or Color Wash and then tweaked the settings.
