Folks:
The current BOM for the SSR4 w/DMX option at Mouser has three problematic items:
*The Littlefuse clips are end of life; I believe these are compatible replacements: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Littelfuse/01110501Z/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMuG%252bgnN5hGYGz%252b7t4SVwK3ZNIPvW%252bavkvQ%3d
*The 180-ohm resistors are now only sold as reels under that product number; I believe this is the number for onesies/foursies: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/KOA-Speer/CF1-4C181J/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMu61qfTUdNhG0dPV%2f%2fen5K2%2fOIqFqQkVPg%3d
*The RS-485 chip is EOL (I believe ST is getting out of the buffer/line-driver business, as all its products in that category are EOL); I have been using this alternate part in other, similar projects: http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=SN75176BPvirtualkey59500000virtualkey595-SN75176BP
Could the Powers That Be please review my suggested replacements and, first, bless them (as I'd like to build the controller in the coming days), and then update the BOM with either my suggestions or (should I have made any mistakes) ones that are appropriate?
Thanks.

PS: FWIW, the "Base SSR4" BOM has the same clip and resistor problems. The "DMX Option" looks to be the BOM for the v1 board, not the current V2 board (i.e.: it shows the obsolete Pulse transformer and has the obsolete capacitors) and additionally has the EOL ST RS-485 chip.
PPS: Just saw -- this is Post No. 666 for me. I was always a little devilish ;-) ...

I believe this should work. The fuse clip is the only thing I am not positive about until someone trys them.

RJ:
Thanks. I'll order the BOM with those substitutes today.
I'll be buying the new clips but I have a stash of the old ones (I wonder why I bought spares?), so if the new new ones aren't right, I'll still be OK.

PS: Happy Thanksgiving.

Please let us know the results and if the parts work, the BOM shoul be updated.
-
I should have the parts mid-week next week and plan to build ASAP. I have a new BOM with the new parts over at Mouser and will publish it and change the wiki link when all is proven well.

Did these parts work for you? I've got several empty boards i need to build and the BOM was never updated. Just curious if they worked for you? Also there is now another obsolete part.
IC Socket - http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=1-390261-2virtualkey57100000virtualkey571-1-390261-2 (http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=1-390261-2virtualkey57100000virtualkey571-1-390261-2)
Looks like it can be substituted with - http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=571-1-2199298-2&bdprt=1&projectguid=F10D1D69-6744-4AE8-BFE1-17B383D79D7D&projectid=29863402 (http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=571-1-2199298-2&bdprt=1&projectguid=F10D1D69-6744-4AE8-BFE1-17B383D79D7D&projectid=29863402)
Thanks in advance.

Did these parts work for you?
My plans changed last year and I didn't need the device for the show. In fact, I was totally surprised the other day when I found a box from Mouser with the parts ... when I saw the transformer, I quickly figured out they were for an SSR4.
While I still don't need this one, let me see if I can get its building onto the agenda sometime in the next few days.
Thanks.

cool, it will be at least next week before i get to order the parts to attempt to build mine but it would be nice to have verification that all of the substituted parts work or not before i order. Thanks for all of your help here and on my WTB post. And once i build mine i will also confirm that mine works using the substituted rs485 chip with 595-SN75176BP. But if SABIE still has a few of the old rs485's i might get a few from him just in case the substitution has any issues.

That part will work but i believe it is not rated for very cold temps as I remember that is my only concern with it as a replacement.

This is what I ordered for the SSC coop.
DS3695TN/NOPB
It is about 50 cents more but it is good down to -40.

if you need some rs485's check the sale trade i have some for sale

Try this one, it has bent legs to hold it to the pcb,

Has the Bom been updated with Rj approved substitutes?
-
Just looking up for the SSR4/DMX myself......the BOM has NOT been updated.....
-
Good Morning, sounds like a lot of discussion of replacements and testing going on for an updated SSR4 w/ DMX BOM list. +1 vote from me as I'm also interested in having this information reconciled into an updated BOM.
-
there are even more parts that are eol is there going to be an update of the bom for parts replacement or is the ssr4 and obsolete and no longer supported item? I have several that I want to upgrade to dmx .
-
Once again, aside from the RS485 driver, what is obsolete are commodity products ... the fuse clips, a resistor and three IC sockets ... just delete them from the Mouser BOM and buy them at Radio Shack if you're concerned ... I'm confident my links work otherwise.
Rainlover says this is the preferred replacement for the RS485 because it works in cold temps:

SO does someone have a good BOM they built when they ordered to get this all in one whack and not be flipping back and forth to the thread picking that or this one?
Was just looking today as I need some caps to fix an insteon plm that died and thought I might as well get all of it while I am paying some shipping.
It looks like as of today still swapping parts for the RS485, some sockets, some resistors, and a warning on another socket entering EOL.
-
Do you need the BOM with the power supply or without? I just built some DMX splitters and I had to find replacements that had the same spec. From the looks of it you will be able to do it but will have to pick and choose parts. I had to mod the newer power transformer to fit the board. This was the biggest thought process but everything worked fine.
-
I will run mine with the 120v power supply, I didn't see that the transformer was coming up not available, just some other pieces here and there that maybe I have it all figured out.
-
The transformer for this one is different and still available.
-
Anyway to modify the V2 boards to work with the new transformer?
-
Here is the link to the pics of how I modified the splitter PCB but it's holes are different. I don't have a PCB to study so I'm not sure if it would work. I don't want to lead anyone down the wrong path so you will have to study the pins/specs on the transformer and the PCB and see if it will work.
-
The transformer for this one is different and still available.
So you are saying if I ordered off the BOM I have the wrong transformers coming now and have wasted my money on them?
