This Coop is for the Dumb String Controller (DSC).

Please read this post completely before posting in this Coop.

This Coop will have only one option. It will be for a complete kit including PCB, RJ45 Pigtail, and parts.

This Coop will close on July 25, 2012 at 8:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.

We have a base goal of 100 kits. This goal allows the cost per unit to drop low enough to make it cost effective to run the coop. Below this number we will not make the order.

The Coop will not have a maximum number of kits. However, the coop may close early at the coop managers discretion
if a large number of kits are requested.

Full Payment is expected when the Coop is closed. All members will receive PMs with details how to pay. No parts can be purchased until all members have paid.

Please get your PayPal payments in as soon as you get the Coop PM. Delaying your payment will delay the coop for everyone.

By joining this Coop you also agree that the Coop manager, DLA (as a board to also include all administrators, moderators, and members) shall not be held for any liability.  You are joining this Coop at your own risk.

Here is the pricing breakdown based on the initial estimates.
Pricing is in US Dollars and includes PayPal and Coop fees.

DSC Kit With PCB, RJ45 Pigtail, and parts.

Per Kit At Qty 100 - $15.00

This is only an estimate. As always higher numbers reduce pricing and lower numbers increase pricing.

Shipping will be by US Postal Service Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes. Several kits should fit in a small flat rate box.

Shipping Charges: for the “Small” flat rate box with PayPal fees. (In US Dollars)
Domestic: $5.50
Canada and Mexico: $13.33
All Others: $17.44

Insurance on your package will be optional. The amount to add to your payment will be included in the payment PM. You must add this to your PayPal payment and in the comments explain you paid for insurance and how much. We cannot be held responsible for your package once accepted at the post office.

I wouldn't expect the price to drop a lot. I think at a quantity of 1000 the price only drops about $1.70 for the parts. So, I wouldn't plan on more than 2 or 3 dollars drop in price.

I would like 4 controller kits please. Sounds like this is a upgrade smart string controller if I'm correct. Can I use this as a regular smart string controller? Just wanted to make sure.

It behaves like a smart string controller -- except from a software perspective, it only will handle a single pixel...  that pixel controls a string of 12v led lights that will all light up together in the same color.

It is NOT a smart string controller in any way.  A smart string controller supplies contant 12V power and a control signal that the smart string nodes use to control them.  A dumb string controller simply supplies and controls power only.  This is a common anode device which means that it sends out a costant +12V and controlls 3 common or ground leads.  You would also notice that the smart string controller has three output lead while the dumb string controller has 4.  While they are both PixelNet devices and plug into the Pixelnet hub, there outputs are very different and they control very different devices.

The coop managers will not requote the coop as it goes. Until it finishes and we get updated quotes from every supplier they don't know what it will be.

There will be a slight savings but it won't be too much.

OK, let's play nice. It's only been closed 4 days.
There was a time (before ipad) that I was only online about twice a week.

Coop rules are that no parts will be ordered until all payments are in.
For those that have not paid, please pay as soon as possible. If you cannot pay, please contact the coop manager to release your units from the coop. It is up to the coop manager to determine cutoff dates and the disposition of released units (usually a fire sale with same day payment required to avoid quantity changes that would require a new price quote).

Folks

There is no reserving any "possible" kits. Until the coop manager determines what he wants to do. Then at that time he MIGHT post that there are extra kits and its first come first server.

Update: RJ has the PCBs but is still waiting on the pigtails. I have the rest of the parts ready to be boxed and shipped as soon as I get them.

My dad passed away yesterday. I will miss him. He really liked the Christmas lights so it will be a little sad putting them up this year knowing he won't be here to see them.

I will be busy the rest of the week, but will still try to get the coop out as soon as possible.

My dad loved coming and helping me setup up every year at thanksgiving, he also loved the lights, and he passed almost two years ago.  I know your pain and my heart goes out to you!!  I know no words can dull the pain, all I can say is just stay close to all your memories as those will last your lifetime!

I have sent shipping notices for the kits that I know will fit in a small box and the ones that will definitely require a medium box. I am waiting on the rest until I know for sure what size box is needed.

I will be picking up the PCBs and pigtails from the Post Office this afternoon and will be able to send the rest of the shipping notices this evening or tomorrow. I hope to have all kits shipped by this weekend assuming I receive payments.

Got mine today.  Great job.  I assume the pic has NOT been programmed.  If not, when will the code be posted?  Also, any news on an assembly manual?  The pcb looks pretty straight forward but I don't want to screw it up.  Thanks again.

Manual updates are looking great! 

For Step 16, I think you should update the text and perhaps the photo to indicate that the shunt needs to be installed on both pins to program and then removed when done.  An easy detail to overlook when things aren't working right.

Got mine yesterday.  I have to say Richard, that I have had two COOPs with you this year and each time your package has come in everything is packed AWESOME!  It's very well packed and labeled and just superb!   <res.
