Lynx Smart String / Re: Smart string update please
« on: January 05, 2018, 07:23:13 pm »
Thanks to both of you for your replies.  I have a friend here locally who is using Falcon controllers and X-lights and he highly recommends them.  Let me ask another question and this is probably not the correct board but here goes:  Wasn't there a device made to use with the LE that would basically be preprogrammed with your show information and would run the show without having to be physically linked up via a Cat 5 cable?  Wasn't it called the Conductor?  I have been thinking about using my LE controllers to turn on and off my static lights.  I like to vary the on and off time depending on the date, day of week, etc. and thought this would be a good way to do it however I don't want to have to connect them all via ethernet cable.

Lynx Smart String / Smart string update please
« on: December 30, 2017, 04:07:37 pm »
Until last year I was running a 9000 light mega tree using 3 Lynx Express controllers.  Some of you may remember my post of it being destroying in a storm.  I didn't do an animated show this year as I was trying to decide how or whether to move forward.  I think I want to make the move to an RGB tree for 2018.  I have not been active on the DIY website for some time and am a little concerned about the seeming lack of activity and posts on the site.  Can someone update me as to what is going on?  I was thinking about utilizing the Lynx Smart String however I'm not sure if it is even a current, available product and if will it be going forward.  Thanks for any input.

The Porch / Re: Storm damage to my mega tree

Sorry, I was confused.  I thought you were asking about the cable instead of the pole.  The pole was galvanized.  It broke right at the point where it went into the coupling.  The pole was made up of 3 sections and they were all tightened as much as possible using pipe wrenches.  There was actually no threads visible.  As far as the guy wires I was using 3.  They were attached just a few inches from the top of the pole.  Good point about using 6.  I may add 3 more assuming I rebuild this thing for next year.  I actually have large eye bolts permanently cemented in the ground that I attach the cables to.  They are designed to be right at ground level so in the summer I can mow right over them.  Some years they are a little hard to find however I have very accurate measurements so usually I can find them pretty easily.

I appreciate everyone's comments and input.  Merry Christmas!!

I like the comment about the 40' tree.  Food for thought...

As far as the show the mega tree WAS the show.  The rest of my lights are static.

The cable was galvanized.  It broke pretty much right in the middle.

I thought some of you might be interested in what happened to my 25' mega tree last Saturday night.  A strong cold front came through with extremely high winds that blew almost continuously for several hours.  One of my guy wires broke and the stress snapped the 3" steel pole like it was a twig.  I always feel that I over engineer everything that I do however in hindsight using the small, braided clothesline for a guy wire was an obvious mistake.  Show is over this year however I plan to be back bigger and better next year.  I have attached a picture of the aftermath.

The Porch / Re: List of songs to sequence

I know this is an old post but I am determined to sequence some new songs this year.  The link mentioned in this string doesn't work anymore.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I am really looking for something that hasn't been overdone.

Lynx Express / Lynx Express channel stuck "on"
« on: November 30, 2015, 09:41:48 pm »
I know this has been touched on numerous times but will someone please refresh my memory as to what the normal cause is for a channel to be stuck on?  I know if it is stuck on it is one thing and if it won't come on it is normally another thing.  One is the triac and the other is the opto chip???  Which is which?

Some time back I asked (I believe on this board) if anyone could suggest songs to sequence.  Someone gave me a link to a website with a list of the most popular songs to sequence.  I bought some of them on Amazon and then promptly replaced my computer and lost them.  Anyone heard of this site and maybe could post a link to it?

After making this post I saw where someone else had the same issue.  The only reply was that the file may be corrupted.  Sorry I should have looked closer before making a new post however does anyone have any other ideas?

Light Show Pro / Unable to open file
« on: December 02, 2014, 12:11:58 am »
I have been using LSP for 3-4 years.  This year one of my LE's had a bad channel so I decided to move that channel to an unused on in another LE.  I had to open each sequence file and make the necessary change however there is one file that for some reason the software will not open.  The file seems to play and work normally in the scheduler but when I try to open it in the sequencer it will not open.  Thoughts?

I did this last year when 2 channels failed on one LE.  I was able to shift them to a different controller using Light Show Pro.  If you have to replace the triac be careful that you don't overheat the board when desoldering.  I did this and messed up the board to where those channels are not operational.
