Lynx Freestyle / Re: FS channels not working

I'm starting to lean towards the RJ45 jack.  I have not looked into the jacks deeply as the FS is out in the yard currently.  When I bust down the display this year I will focus on the RJ45.  I was even thinking of replacing a jack as a test.  But to desolder those things... ugggh.

It isn't an xLights specific problem.  I have had the problem with xLights, FPP and even Vixen 2.1 and 2.5.  Same channels are out.  It isn't a software configuration issue.  It appears to be hardware.

Thanks.  I don't think there is a dongle FW to handle higher channels.

Ok, thank you for confirming.  There must be a different issue then.

Sorry... the reason why I'm asking this is that I tried last night via method 1 above, connected the zeus (universe 2) off of an active hub (universe 1) with 2 dongles + combiner.  I tried to do a test with FPP and could not get anything in Uni 2 to light up.  My trees on Uni 1 lit up, but Uni 2 was dark.  I wasn't able to troubleshoot more since it started to rain.  Doesn't rain all month and the one night I finally get everyone connected, it rains... go figure.

Yes, I understand that.  I do have a 2nd dongle with a combiner to go out via one cable.  My question is the configuration/programming of the zeus for Universe 2.  Since the dongle only goes out on one pair of wires (Uni 1), I'm assuming that I set the Zeus to Universe 1, program it to appropriate channel (in this instance channel 1) and then simply set the jumpers to Universe 2.  By setting the jumpers to universe 2, the zeus will then be listening to data targeted for channels 4097-9xxx as defined in something like xLights or FPP.

Do I program on Uni 1 and then jumper to Uni 2?

Lynx Zeus / How to Program Zeus Uni 2?

Using USB Pixelnet dongle.  Need to program zeus to start at 4097 (uni 2).  Do I...

1.  Using Zeus Config Util, set address to 1 (won't go above 4096).  Set universe on Zeus to 1 on all 16 outputs.   After programming address, place all jumpers to Universe 2 for each output.

or

2. Using Zeus Config Util, set address to 1, set universe to 2 on all 16 outputs.

I tried both.  Method 1 I see the typical flashing lights during programming.  Method 2, I get no flash, so to me this indicates that it is not programmed.

The assembly instructions indicate set the universe first and then program (method 2) but I get no flash.

I think my answer is NO.  Just making sure this is correct.

If my hub is universe 2 and the DMX jumper is set to 1, then the output DMX channels are 4097-4608 channel range.

So to get to my DMX channels 1-512, I need to set the hub to Uni 1 and change my zeus to Uni 2 and update my SSC start channels.

Sorry for the potentially stupid question.  Can I have an active hub set to universe 2 and output DMX universe 1?  I will have 2 pixel net dongles to a combiner to  the hub on uni 2 then to a Zeus on uni 1.

I don't have another FS.  I hit all of the joints again.  No change.   I've swapped flip flops hoping problem follows.  Does not follow the flip flop.  I've replaced just about everything I have a spare of (all the chips and even the XTAL clock. The only thing I haven't tried is to replace the Rj45 jack.

I'm trying to reduce my need on the FS so I have enough working ports for the limited number of SSR4s that I use now.  At some point in time I would like to pass the FS and SSR4s onto the next person who is getting into the hobby, but would like for the board to fully work.

Thanks for reading and suggestions.

I'm reactivating this thread.  I've replaced the PIC and get the same result.  Here is an interesting tidbit... I've switched to xLights and am using the Test tool functionality.  When I attempt to turn on a channel that I knew was not lighting up the past, it behaves exactly the same (no light).  However, if I select all models (created models 1-128) and turn background to full 255, I get lights on the channels that do not work when called individually.  I'm not sure if this is correct behavior from the tool.

Any ideas/suggestions.

Lynx Smart String / 2811 Flex Strip question
« on: October 17, 2016, 10:21:34 pm »
3 questions about 2811 Flex Strips, 30 / meter, 12v

1. Cut lines?  Every 3rd light where pads are located?
2. There is a spot every 18 inches or so that has a solder joint.  That ties 6 lights together.  Any idea?
3. I've read previously that when you turn on 1 light, you actually turn on 3.  How do you address?  Is the node count 1 or 3?

The Porch / Re: LED Spot hack

They are different colors, so I will check out the voltages.

Would it be as simple as a 12v to Xv step down?  If I was to put it on the bench at the appropriate voltage, what resistor would I need, if any, to protect?

The Porch / LED Spot hack

Posted this over on DIYC and wanted to post here as well...

Need advice. I purchased a few of these LED spots from, I believe, Lowe's 2, maybe 3 years ago. Don't know the brand. Don't have the box anymore. I usually try to keep at least 1 box and I didn't this time... not sure why. They are a simple plug into an outlet and they turn on. Each spot was a single color... red, green or blue. Tried to use them in shows using an SSR4 to control them. But the circuitry would delay the activation of the LEDs by about 70 ms. So it made it difficult to time in a sequence.

I took a multimeter and read 9 volts going from the circuitry to the LEDs. This was measured at the solder point of the wire going into the disc that holds the LEDS. I measured 3+ volts across one of the LEDs (there are 3 / spot).

So my question is... is there something that I can do to cut out/bypass the current circuitry, add in my own components to have this thing powered from a Rainbow Brain or some other 5v/12v dmx controller? As a test, could I just apply 9v from a bench PS to the wiring running into the LED disc without blowing the LEDs?

Here are some pics

Thanks
