Lynx Splitter / Re: Leave out transformer?
« on: August 13, 2014, 02:33:38 pm »
What about leaving the fuse and wire connector on the board then run 12 volt DC to the wire connector then on the transformer mounting holes place 2 jumpers to get the 12v DC to the output side of where the transformer would have been mounted. Your thought.

Hello Mike,
I wanted to check to see if leaving the transformer off the splitter is still the same. I want to power 2 boards with 5v DC and run the power down the same cat5 wire that the DMX will be running in, (not the same pair of wires as the DMX but the same cable). I wonder if the distance from power supply to first board is to far. It will be about 65 feet to first splitter then another 10 feet to the next. Will this be to far for 5 volts to run and not lose too much voltage. What size power supply in regards to amps should I buy?

Lynx Smart String / rain and Smart string nodes
« on: July 13, 2012, 03:12:52 am »
I have not been on here for a while and am looking for an update on the smart string nodes and water tightness. I know last year there were people who were having major trouble with water getting in and shorting out their nodes and or burning up RJ45 male and female connectors.

I held off buying Smart Strings because of this. Has this problem been fixed? I don't want to spend lots of money and use up all my free time and then have water destroy my strings.

So is now the time to order or should I be looking at the Flex strips 5M long?

Thanks for your help.

Thats interesting, do you know anyone else that has tried that controller on these lights. Would hate to kill the string with wrong controller and then loose $60.00 worth of a light set. I have not seen the 50 light set for sale this year.

I have the 50 GE-35 light set. So your saying that I can cut the controller of the set then use the E681 to control the string?

Is the trouble with water getting into the nodes the first version of nodes that were sold and needed to be dipped or are these the 2nd version of nodes that don't need to be dipped?

Lynx Smart String / Re: Run LOR as DMX off pixelnet hub?
« on: December 03, 2011, 10:59:04 pm »
I thought pins 1 and 2 on the RJ45 cable was standard. I was able to get a 2nd Lynx to test using the LOR hardware utility but when I put the Lynx into the system outside it would not work. So I guess I will try and run the song from the computer and see if that will make the Lynx work.

I could also try running the iDMX right off the first controller maybe that would make it work. Right now the iDMX is the 3rd unit in line.

Thanks for your input RJ.

Lynx Express / Re: LOR Showtime Director MP3 unit with Lynx Express
« on: December 02, 2011, 07:44:38 pm »
I have my idmx producing a DMX signal that is being sent to a Lynx express. the Express is not responding to signals other then I get channel 5-8 coming on ramdemly. The DMX LED on the express is on steady. I am using the XLR to RJ45 adapter that is listed in the wiki.

The show is ran from the LOR MP3 player. What might be wrong?

Looking at the cpoint adapter and the wiring card that came with it. Shows pin 1 as data1- going to number 2 in the cat5 cable. And Data1+ goes to number 1 on the cat5.

But then if you look how they have the cat5 cable numbered is 7,8,2,1,C,3,6,4,5.

Im confused, do I need the conversion cable if I am using my iDMX to run my Lynx express? And yes I know I need the adapter to go from XLR to RJ45, I have that.

I would run the whole show in DMX mode but the only trouble is I am using the LOR 1602MP3 so it would be easier to control the LOR controllers and iDMX in the LOR protocol and then switch the wires in the cat5 cable to run the Lynx I have the XLR to RJ45 adapter that I will use to send DMX to the Lynx Express.

What color is the wires (if my cable was made the right way) for pins 1 and 2 and pins 4 and 5?

So if I understand your thinking and if I was using the computer to control my display I could run out of the computer into the iDMX then using the XLR to RJ45 adapter I could daisy chain all the controllers from there? and make a conversion Cat5 cable that would plug into the first Lynx Express.

A little confusing. I too plan to use my idmx to control the Lynx Express boxes.

If the idmx will run DMX fixtures why won't it run Lynx controllers without switching a couple wires in the cat5 cable? Does that mean If I wanted to run the Lynx controllers and DMX moving head fixtures I would have to switch the wires back again after the last Lynx to run to the moving head fixtures?

So it would look like this iDMX----switched wires----------Lynx----------lynx----switched wires back---------------moving head----------------moving head.

And I assume if the layout was right I could put the moving heads first then switch the wires and then place the lynx controllers last.

What wires do I need to switch for the Lynx controllers to work with the iDMX?

Thanks

Yes its the IDMX-1000. No SSC this year, saving money.

So to use the LOR as DMX controllers I make up a cable to swaps wires 4,5 (LOR dmx) into wires 1,2

Right now I have no interface. So I'm guessing for this year, I build the show in LSP then convert it to LOR load it onto the LOR player and hope for the best.

I dont think I have time to order then build the DMX dongle to run the whole show in DMX.

Hello
I have 3 Express and 2 LOR units. I want to use all 5 together. One of the LOR units has the card so it will play the shows on its own with out a computer.

I have the LOR DMX output device. How do I use LSP and be able to use all 5 controllers? Since the 2 LOR are not DMX.
Do I build the show in LSP then convert it to LOR? LOR should know what to send as DMX right?

Then I save the show to my LOR controller then run the show from the controller and not have to tie up my computer.

Thanks for your help
