The Porch / Re: Upcoming Coops
« on: February 04, 2014, 12:00:28 pm »
Thank You John, RJ, and All the COOP Managers for a great job.  <res. I know it is a lot of work and some of them have a longer lead time then other coops so hope everyone will be nice waiting for the Coop they want.

One thing for any one new to this great group is that we are at the mercy of the parts suppliers some times part are out of stock so it takes longer to get the parts.

And of course while you are waiting for your Coop please read the Wiki and ask questions so you can make a good decision on what you want to get and know how to use it so when it shows up at your door step you are ready to make the blinky.

The Porch / Re: Question about running Cat5
« on: December 13, 2012, 03:56:58 pm »
If I were doing it I would run two 3/4" conduits at least two feet apart as much of the run as possible. If you were going up a post put one on one side and the other on a different side. you also might want to use metal conduit from just below ground to the boxes that way the weed whacker will not break the conduit and ruin the cables inside. I would run at least 2 cat 5e cables to jacks in a two gang box to leave a nice service loop so if I need to change the jacks I had the cable. You might wonder why at least 2 cat 5e, 1 for the RS-422 network and the others for anything else like sound, video, Ethernet, cameras.

OK, another twist on the subject, is it better to use GFCI outlets or install GFCI breakers where it might be easier to get to a breaker panel then s to the outlet?

The Porch / Re: Wire Runs

If you look at most of your power supplies they are now made to run from 100 to 240 volts AC so a little drop from 120 should not be a problem. If your supplies are not the new wide voltage ones it might be cheaper to up grade them and go with the 10/3 idea also keep your eye's open for used contractors job site cables sometimes the bigger companies replace or throw out the cables with a nick in the outer jack but the inside conductors are fine.

Bobcat DMX Servo Controller / Re: new to servos
« on: April 11, 2012, 04:42:30 pm »
This is not an endorsement but one place to check out is ServoCity.com they list the servos by types and and the specs, they also show different mounts and ways to take some of the load off the servo and put it on the mount.

You might want to see if someone around you has a Dongle that you could use to program your light curves in!! Ray :)

Why not use a Crydom D2W203F Solid State Relay, 3 volt turn on at 3ma draw.
