Lynx Aether / Re: Lynx Aether II info?

Lenses make a huge difference. I preferred the medium throw. The narrow beam didn't blend as well.

I saw something on the internet about an ape in Utah picking the correct winner in the last 6 superbowls  and he had picked the Seahawks. I guess he can add another correct prediction. You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Lynx Conductor / Re: Conductor Updates
« on: January 30, 2014, 07:43:51 pm »
What caused a past issue for me was a short power outage and the conductor didn't start back up when the power came on like my computer used to. Now I use a computer backup battery.

The Porch / Re: active hub power supply?

Also plug in as many of the connectors from a computer power supply as you can. If you only plug in the main ones and try to drive a lot of nodes the main plugs will melt. The power needs to be spread around.

You can't run 16 strings of 128 count nodes anyway as it would take more channels than available on a single smarthub if I remember correctly.

The Porch / Re: RJ45 jacks?
« on: January 21, 2014, 01:07:48 pm »
The waterproof RJ45 connectors dont work very well. On the rainbow floods I built years ago, when I went to tear down the display on a lot of them the RJ45 jacks had melted and/or failed. I switched to the 4 core waterproof plugs and had no more problems. That being said, I didn't have a problem with the SSC RJ45 jacks but then I had them in cheap plastic Tupperware type containers with grooves for the cords cut out. My vote is to keep RJ45 jacks on the boards themselves and 4 core pigtails on the other end as an option for the individual to decide if he wants it.

Lynx Smart String / Re: Bench testing
« on: January 15, 2014, 06:06:42 pm »
With the Zeus the light string would need to be about 12 feet or less from the Zeus unless you use null nodes. With a hub you can have the SSC be up to about 100 feet away from the hub and then up to 12 feet from the SSC to the light string if it is a v4 SSC. RJ is investigating the few problems a few people had and will have it fixed so you don't have to worry about that.

Or you could bring them to Oklahoma :)

These are not the new ones. He just sent out some samples this week for testing. I think Steve at first didn't see an issue until he put them outside and in real world conditions. The good reviews were probably indoors with very little testing. Everybody including me assumed they would work okay based upon the videos of the creator as he was designing them. And it is also not his fault the way they were manufactured was not the same as his prototypes were manufactured. I would not trust them until someone says they have survived outdoor in the cold in high winds and multiple rainstorms.

Turning down the intensity did not help the failure rate much. If at all.

So what is the conclusion on these technicolor WS2811 strings?
How many people are having problems?
Are they bad design or manufacturing?
Or is this a normal % of manufacturing failure?
Have they been fixed or not?
I would ask Ray for your money back. I have not heard anyone say they didn't  have any problems. Of the new design they are testing now only time will tell. I probably wouldn't trust the new design until it makes it through a Christmas season without problems.

Did you have to pay shipping back to Ray? I did on the original ip66 nodes a few years ago.

Lynx Smart String / Re: Any good rumors about the new WS2821 IC's?
« on: January 10, 2014, 01:09:20 pm »
Probably why RJ used smartstrings in his own show for a season before letting us know about them. Yet even then the prototypes were manufactured to a higher standard than the production strings as he didn't have problems with rain like I did. And I know Florida gets more than Oklahoma. I lost around 70 nodes through the season of the original ip66 nodes. Cutting and splicing almost every day.

The part that got my attention was that one bad node won't affect the whole string. Most of the rest was Greek to me.
