If I'm not too late then 2 please and thanks.

I'm unfortunately not able to use these in the next couple of years so I'd rather pass them on then keep them around.  They are still sealed in the co-op box they came in.  I'll only sell them as a whole set for the price I paid.

Price is 191.14 + 14.44 outbound domestic shipping + insurance for $205.58 total.  The 16 smart string controllers and the SS hub have to be sold as a set but if you don't want the 12v power kit I'm willing to pull that out of the box and sell the rest for $201.58 (domestic shipping included).

I'll only ship to the paypal confirmed address.

Thanks.

I'm sorry but I'm looking at the budget and I need to drop out of this one.  I had been down for 2 #2 kits but please remove me.

Thanks

Thanks so much

The Porch / Re: Securing Lights to pvc pipe?

It may not be the most beautiful idea but I just drill a few screws in the pvc and sit the wire on those.  Certainly a lit easier then grinding/drilling, etc.

Lynx Express / Re: Best thing to use for plugs?

Yeah or you can even pull out / snip off the ground prong.  You should make sure your flood light housing is water tight though.  They may have added the ground plug because of water problems.

Just as an FYI the ground has nothing to do with the delivery of power.  The only thing the ground is for is to give the electricity an escape route if what you are using breaks.  The ground doesn't normally have any power on it at all, in fact if it ever does it will trip a ground fault interrupt outlet (which we should all be using for outdoor outlets).

If your flood lights have the three prong plugs go ahead and connect the grounds if you'd like.  You might want to use heat shrink around the whole thing to be 100% sure it doesn't short anything out inside your LE box.  Just keep in mind the actual flood light bulbs only have two connectors so the ground is only used if the housing becomes damaged for safety purposes.

Lynx Smart String / Re: Received Smart Strings poor quality

This probably isn't anything you don't already know but for that many splices you might try something like this:  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login . Just the first result on Google might be cheaper elsewhere.  Your local hardware store will have the same.

Just some kind of crimp on splicer so you don't have to go through the process of strip-solder-heat shrink with every one.  Just cut the wires, crimp it on, then move on.  Not the most beautiful solution but some of them are inline so they won't be very noticeable.

I don't remember where the post is but be careful if you connect the grounds.  Apparently somebody was doing that, something got loose and he got the magic smoke from his express because it shorted something.

I just use the cheap walmart extension cables.  Compared to the overall assembly time the time cutting & stripping 18 cables really isn't that long.

Sale/Trade / Re: incan repair tool.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I watched a video of the Light Keeper Pro (not the old version) and he fixed a tree by clicking the trigger multiple times.  I think this would fuse the bulb wires as described above.

Also it has an electricity detector in it so you plug the light string in and run it near the bulbs in order.  As soon as you no longer hear a tone you've found your bulb.  It might not be as obvious as the buzz box but for the price difference I will definitely be getting a Light Keeper pro for this year.

The Porch / Re: Splitting the DMX Cat 5 in to branches
« on: May 11, 2011, 01:28:10 pm »
Basically I'm integrating some of the cheapdmx controllers for remote locations where a MR16 is impractical.  I'm not wrapping my trees but I think either a rainbow spot or some 5050 LEDs (undecided so far) would look good in them.  The cheapdmx controller doesn't have a DMX out so you'd have to branch it off some how or splice it in.

To answer the other question RJs Lynx dongle uses the white orange wire for DMX + and orange for DMX - (unless I'm mixing the two wires up, it is in the wiki) and he doesn't have a ground.

I probably wouldn't use an off the shelf controller but splice it myself.  I just want to make sure there aren't any consequences I'm not aware of.

You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login -  Keeping in mind that the output of the lynx dongle and the DMX spec are only supposed to have 36 units connected without some kind of repeater (like the express if I'm correct) is there anything wrong with using this kind of RJ45 splitter on our lines.  If I understand DMX correctly it is for our purposes basically one way and ever device receives the whole DMX message (packet for lack of a better word) unchanged so this should work.  The only problem I can think of is you'd be losing signal power but this would be for things like an isolated cheapdmx box or something like that.

Am I correct?  And yes I'll find it for cheaper or make it but the radio shack link is a nice picture of a splitter.

Thanks

Vixen / Re: How Do I Create RGB In Vixen
« on: May 09, 2011, 12:03:31 am »
I don't have my dmx unit for this yet but you will  be assigning a separate channel for red, green & blue.  If you used the MR16 from here the first three channels should be the RGB.  The DMX module from cheapdmx also uses three channels.

Any chance anybody is going to post some notes and/or videos?  That sounds like some interesting stuff but I don't know of anything like that going on near me.

OK so this is a smart string square project.  I get it now.  I showed the picture and video to my wife and she said "wow we should use those for stair rails."  I made it in on the pixel net co-op but faced the reality that the smart strings would have to wait next year.  However a tree made of these & a small number of smart string squares would have a huge wow factor and be easier on the wallet.  I look forward to hearing how your PVC test goes.
