Lynx Smart String / Re: Smart String Test Firmware
« on: July 21, 2011, 08:04:59 pm »
you just need to flash the test firmware and plug into hub for power.

does this update change anything other than adding the capability of null nodes?

Quick update...
With the change in vixen plugin and Smart String Utility all appears to be functioning as expected !!

Thanks again RJ for a stellar product and all of you hard work  <res.

4
Unfortunately not that easy. I am 100% certain that the node counts are accurate.

OK...
First I will try to explain my setup then I'll explain my issue.
I have two SSC driving strings of nodes.  one has 120 nodes the 2nd has 105 nodes.
I am running them end to end to make one long string of 225 nodes.

When I program the channels onto the nodes 1 am starting with channel 1 and going to channel 315 for the 105 node string then continuing with 316 and going to 675 for the 120 node string.

I have a simple sequence set up in vixen that starts with node 1 turning red then node 2 turns red and 1 turns green. this progresses so that each node cycles red green blue white while the one behind it is one "step" behind.

my issue is...
when the sequence transitions from string 1 (with 105 nodes) to string 2 (with 120 nodes) the progression brakes and it doesn't follow sequence.  It seems as if the 2nd string is a few channels  behind.

I first thought that my sequence was messed up but it doesn't appear to be.
And I have switched the order of channels end for end (120 node string starting channel 1 and 105 node string starting channel 361) and the progression brakes when it switches strings (but this time at channel 360-361 not 315-316 as it was with the 105 node string first)
I have also run one forward config one backwards (same result) and both backwards (same result)

I have also programmed both strings to start channel 1 and that works also so I don't think there is a bad node in either of the strings.

If I overlap the channel programming by one node (first string ending channel 315 2nd starting 313) the progression works.

I am baffled.    I hope it is something simple and I am overlooking something easy or I am having a bonehead moment.

my sequence is would be attached but cant upload .vix file extension  <fp.

I noticed that if you do not have the com port set correctly in the plugin it will crash vixen.

Lynx Smart String / Re: SSC firmware update 6-15-2011

I'm not sure if this is related or not.
I was able to flash both the test and the (prior to update) SSC firmware.
when I run the test firmware without the program jumper in place.
my string of nodes starts to cycle colors (as it should) but when it gets to white the whole string stays solid white.
with the program jumper in place it does the same.  I have checked for a solder bridge at or around the program jumper and there does not appear to be any.

Also, when I run the regular (pre-update) SSC firmware. when I try to program the nodes with the utility it does not flash but stays solid white.

anyone have any suggestons?
Is there an easy way to detect a bad node? they all light in both the color cycle (as far as it gets) and solid white once it locks there.

Couldn't everyone sync to one of the nist time servers and all start sequence at a set time?

...also (if my understanding of patents is correct)  if there is a patent that should show exactly how it is constructed. so no pictures needed and it is public knowledge.  as long as no one attempts to sell it as is without the patent holders permission there is no problem.

I have heard that the plain shower curtain liners  (the ones that are "milky white )work well as diffusers.

What you would need is something in the rod to "catch" the light.
What I have seen done is similar type projects is to drill or etch where you want the light to show.

Maybe drill small holes at various depths and orientations around the rod to diffuse the light as it travels through the rod.

Wow I know its called "mouser"  but I didn't know they shipped cats <la..

Lynx USB DMX Dongle / Re: USB Dongle co-op?
« on: March 21, 2011, 09:25:14 pm »
I asked that very same question a few months ago.
short answer is no there will not be a dongle parts coop.
there is no real price break ordering in any qty that we would hit.
RJ should have the PCBs stocked again so check the DLA Store for pricing and availability.
check the wiki for the part number and for the cases.

Not sure if this has been covered elsewhere but I figure here will be good too so that it is with the pricing info.
If I have figured correctly...
128 max smart string pixels per controller
1 4 meter flexible strip per controller
4 1 meter rigid strips per controller
42 square modules per controller
42 rectangle modules per controller

Trying to plan out what I can handle with the controllers / hub that I have ordered and plan to what I will need to order in the future  ;D.

Thanks again RJ

You are under guessing on the modules, check out the table in the wiki for this :

The plastic modules I came up with 120 of them on a SSC based on the current I read on them.

The Metal units use more current so they are limited 80 per SSC.

Hope this helps you.

RJ

Thanks RJ  had not noticed the updated wiki.
