Thank you Freebird for doing this COOP. Don't mean to be a pain, but it would be nice to see if my PayPal payment made it and have a chance to correct it if it didn't.  :)

Lynx Smart String / Jezz black RJ45 jacks on hub
« on: December 07, 2013, 03:19:56 pm »
Struggled getting my shows stable, tracked it down to the jacks. Looking inside the female jacks, they have turned black.  Lucky I had a spare hub. They must be  silver  plated.Thinking about using either corrosion X or dielectric silicone grease to keep them from oxidizing. The other interesting note is that the male jacks are gold plated and they are perfect being no corrosion. I wonder if it would help the cause to change the female jacks and new builds over to gold plated.

Thanks I'll check Ray's tester out,  Yes an indoor tree lights would be something but IF I did that I would Use my Smart string stuff.

Hmm, power wouldn't be a problem just in connect the SSC directly to the power supply, fused would be the right way.   I never really used the test firmware for SSC 3 and I don't have one. But I do like  that Idea.  If I did this for myself I would use my equipment.  I do think this would break the Lynx rules in an office setting. Just thinking out loud anyway.
Thanks Keith.

Lynx Smart String / Small indoor smart string tree
« on: December 04, 2013, 11:16:42 am »
My brother saw my smart strings and liked them. He had asked me what it would take to do a table top setup where he works. SO the price of a Etherdongle, hub, SSC, and strings are just a little steep for what he is trying to do. BTW these guys are a bunch of code writers.
Also I think this violate the Lynx usage terms anyway.
But this got me thinking, AND I'm not asking for any code rewrite.  Why cant you take a standard dongle different firmware  no hub two SSC of 1 universe 170 nodes for a small tree.
Just a thought.

Lynx Smart String / Re: Program operation of configuration memory failed
« on: November 18, 2013, 01:37:48 pm »
This is to weird,  I to had the same memory failure.  Unloaded MPLAB and reinstalled it. But the PICKIT3 utility didn't uninstall. Same memory failure Hummm! Opened up the utility from MS programs/ microchip/ PICKIT3  still no go. Messed around with opening the utility with the programmer not connected wouldn't let me select a chip. Messed around some more then it started working for no reason, hasn't missed a beat.  Humm   OH! tried programming another chip  PIC32FJxxxxxxx   before I reinstalled MPLAB with  no problems.

Been reading up on M215 microinverter, big bang for he buck. It must look at the utility to sync phases, do you know if it is a true sign wave?

The Porch / Re: putting a spin on pixels

thanks All

Craig, not sure what it actually spins at. Two speed wiper motor,  low  speed spins fast and  high speed spins very fast. I'm thinking if I do a 4 to 1 reduction on the drive  and a China pwm motor driver for finer speed control. Maybe use a MR16 to turn on some relays to drive the motor and have directional control.

Here is a picture of the housing ,opto coupler mount and a poorly drawn schematic .
took a little lathe work to do this, the block is aluminum and the actual opto mounts are off the shelf PVC fittings with some machine work. Here is the data sheet of the actual opto isolator which is cut into between the lines on the barrel.

hello All
Well had to share this, wanted to build a spinning prop I call Ferris wheel but not really.

built a bearing mounted hub and in the center used optics to transfer the data. Spin this whole thing with a wiper motor which I need to rework, spins to fast.
