Other Projects / Re: PixelNet to DMX
« on: January 14, 2015, 06:30:08 pm »
<fp. sorry I didn't mean for this project to slip.  The project got put on hold because I was getting ready for the birth of my first kid last year.  He was born on 10/26.  After I put away my lights (kids take sooo much time) I will see where I left off.

I hope co-ops pick up this year, they didn't do very good last year.

I agree this board adds a lot of flexibility to displays/testing.  It allowed me to run a 2nd DMX output off my active-hub to go in the opposite direction as the first.

I am in need of one roll of SS Flexible strips.  If you have an extra full of partial rolls that you would like to sell let me know.

Thanks

Any updates? I need to output dmx from my Zeus and don't really want to spend $60 for that. I'm sure this option will save me some money.
I am looking to get a co-op going sometime soon.

I think that you are going to find that this DMX converter is not going to play well with the Zeus, at least not without serious modification.  This DMX converter is designed to be connected to a controller output of a smart string hub and gets both its power and signal that way.  The Zeus is a series of SSC's already on the board.  There is no Pixelnet output on any of the string outputs of the the Zeus and no power on the PixelNet output so it cannot be directly connected to any of the ports on the Zeus and function that way.
I wouldn’t say that any modification to my board would be needed at all.  You will most likely need to make a Cat5 cable to pull the right par of wires from the other PixelNet port on the ZEUS.  Then you will need to get 7-12v to the board which can be pulled from any of the pixel outputs.  I hope that makes sense.

Was your conductor plugged into a network?

RJ

I run it disconnected normally. But when I started seeing the problem I connected it directly to my laptop so that I could see where the problem song was.

I had a seq not play audio and sometimes lockup the conductor this season.  In my case it was always a seq after one seq (I don’t remember the names). So for example say I had seq1, seq2, seq3 and seq4 in a show.  In this example the seq3 would play but seq4 would have no audio.  If I reordered then 3,1,2,4 then seq1 would have no audio.
If I put each seq in their own show they would play fine.  I tried a full reform of the card and also tried adding a 2nd copy of the files to the CF card and both copies had the problem.

I have purchased SS nodes from the wiki the last 2 years (2012, 2013) and so for not one node has failed on me.

All the testing is done.  It's just not a good time to start a co-op.

Lynx Conductor / Re: Light Output Stops

I remember I had a problem during the beta testing with the volume somehow going back to 214 every time I started a show.  Sounds like 214 is some kind of magic number. The way I got it to work again was to reload the original FW (use control panel ver 1.5, rebuild show files) and run a show and change the volume.  Then reload the v69 FW (use control panel ver 3) onto it.  After doing that the volume holds where I left it.

I also had a seq not play audio and lockup the conductor this season.  In my case it was always a seq after one seq (I don’t remember the names). So for example say I have seq1, seq2, seq3 and seq4 in a show.  In this example the seq3 would play but seq4 would not.  If I reordered then 3,1,2,4 then seq1 would have a problem.  I finally got it to work by making copy of seq3 to a different file name (seq5) but leaving the original file on the CF card.  Now my show is 1, 2, 5, 4

So it looks like the problem is not file because I copied my file from the card back to its self and it worked.  It must be a card read error that windows can recover from but not the conductor.

Lynx Smart String / Re: About Ray using a higher current in LED.
« on: November 30, 2013, 12:11:55 am »
My order is on its way from Ray.  My plan was to mix last years nodes with this order on my taller tree. Now that I see I'm most likely going to get the new LED in this batch has any one put these new LED next to the old ones? Are they going look different and stand out.

Thanks

Lynx Smart String / Re: Power issue with active hub
« on: November 28, 2013, 07:34:55 pm »
Connecting 2 power supplies is not a good idea. They will possibly fight each other and may burn them up.  This is why you should only get a single rail PC supply. Your only option is 2 hubs or a bigger supply.

Flexstrips take about 4amps each. 4x12= 48amps.

How about an update?
How is the project going?
I get excited about anything that adds flexibility to our system.

The beta testing has finished. We were able to test it on: LE, wireless, Rays 27ch, Rays 3ch, Renard, LOR, Aether.

Do you have a rough estimate as to the end cost?

I don't have my numbers near by but I know its under $20.

Did you get beta tester? would like to see you get to the point of a coop.

RJ
Yes...6.  So far I have only gotten one person to do a quick test and it worked on one of Rays 27 ch controllers.  Others have said they will try to test this week or very soon.

Cool. If you have the PCBs ready I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one and even getting individual the components if I had to if a co-op wasn't going to happen.

Great work on the piece by the way!

i wouldn't mind having one of these also.

Sorry guys I don’t plan on sending any more PCB’s (if I send any more I think this will start to look like an unapproved co-op).

Is there any specs on this yet? what it hooks into etc?
The specs are that it takes Pixel net data and converts 512 channels of it to DMX.  So it should hook into any DMX device.  Hope that is what you were asking.
