Lynx Aether / Re: Aether II using Ex/Rx Wireless and LOR Software
« on: May 09, 2016, 05:19:33 pm »
Jeff and all:
Jeff, thanks for the reply. I found the problem. Somehow I had changed the protocol on the DMX 1 output to Entec Pro instead of Lynix. When I changed the protocol back to Lynix, everything again worked correctly.

Thanks to all. Jim W

Lynx Aether / Aether II using Ex/Rx Wireless and LOR Software
« on: May 08, 2016, 10:54:40 pm »
I built and have been using 13 Aether II Floods since 2012. I am interfaced to this universe using the Lynx USB DMX dongle connected to a TX/RX transmitter and using an Ex/Rx receiver in each flood. I have had very few issues over the years and everything has worked well and all of the floods have produced the proper colors as sequenced in the files. I am using, and have used LOR to sequence my shows since 2009. I am using DMX Universe 1 for these floods.

However, I just noticed that all of the floods are currently producing incorrect colors. It took me a while to find the source of the issue, but it turns out that DMX channel 1 seems to be missing. Channel 1 is there, and seemingly properly assigned as channel 1, but instead of red on flood 1, I get Green. Channel 2 gets blue instead of green. Channel 3 gets white instead of blue. Channel 4 gets Red on Flood 2! Here is another way to tell the story:

Channel Number               I Should Get               I get
           1                            Flood 1 Red                 Flood 1 Green
           2                            Flood 1 Green              Flood 1 Blue
           3                            Flood 1 Blue                Flood 1 White
           4                            Flood 1 White              Flood 2 Red
         Etc.

Therefore, all of the floods now produce the incorrect colors and/or the wrong flood activates it's red when the previous flood calls for white. Please remember that this used to work just fine. I am not sure when the problem started either late last year or this year, but at this time all sequences are now providing the commands on the wrong channels of DMX Universe 1, again because Channel 1 seems to be controlling the wrong pixel on Flood 1.

I have even tried building a new sequence and adding only DMX 1 to it. The problem still exists. I have also gone into Network configuration and deleted the interface for DMX U 1, rebooted the computer, and then reactivated the interface. The same problem exits.

I think that software is the cause of the problem. When I look at DMX U 1, Channel 1 in channel config, it says that it is channel 1 on DMX 1. Yet it turns on channel 2 in the flood (green) and all following channels are shifted by 1, thereby causing all of the devices to produce unexpected results.

I got to thinking that it could be flood 1 that might have a hardware problem and that it might be dropping the first channel. But that won't wash. Each flood is assigned a specific set of channels and responds only to those channels, such as: Flood 1 is channels 1-4 (RGBW), and Flood 2 is channels 5-8, etc. These floods don't work like an RGB string where the first node strips off the first 3 channels and sends everything along to the next node - and the next node strips off the first 3 channels and sends everything else on to the next node, etc.

I am at a complete loss as to what is happening. I think that I have determined that this started on January 2nd of this year, after I finished running my Christmas show and went back to my "landscaping Lighting" show that I run the rest of the year.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Thanks.
Jim W

Thanks for the responses. I got your PM check and have responded. Thanks.
Steve: Yes I did have the save box checked.

I turns out that I had an operator head-space problem, which I hope has now been resolved. Thanks to all.

The Porch / Problem with PMs on this board
« on: April 25, 2016, 11:10:33 pm »
I don't where else to ask this question, so I will ask it here. Over the last several months, in both 2015 and 2016, I have sent at least 5 PMs out to different people. In fact, I sent another one today. I am having two problems. First, none of these messages show up in my personal mail box. The last time I show a message in my mail box is in 2014. Second, since I have never received any responses to any of the PMs, I am sure that no one is receiving them. Can someone please check and see what the problem might be? Thanks. Jim

Sale/Trade / Express Receiver (EX/RX)Ver 2 Modules Needed
« on: April 21, 2016, 04:14:47 pm »
I need several of the Express Receiver (EX/RX)Ver 2 modules/kits. I don't care if they are still components (all of them) or already built and tested. Please let me know if you have any for sale. Thanks. Jim

Lynx Wireless DMX / Re: 2 Ex/RX Units don't work
« on: October 30, 2014, 12:17:46 pm »
For this testing, the receiver is outside of the case, not touching anything but air. And it is only about 10 feet from the transmitter. It is on the correct channel (no jumpers in place). Is there anyway to test the transceiver module, or to see if it is working at all?
Thanks

Lynx Wireless DMX / Re: 2 Ex/RX Units don't work
« on: October 30, 2014, 10:02:55 am »
This took several days. I had to buy some more pics. Both of the pics in the non-working boards would not flash - I tested them in a working Ex/Rx and they would not function after a reflash. The reflash indicated that it worked but obviously, it did not.

One board is working great now. Thanks!

I am still having problems with the other. The new PIC is flashed and works great. I have tested it in a working receiver and it works fine. However I still have a problem. When connected to a working Aether II the power light comes on and the green data light will flash normally for about 2 seconds. Then the data light stops blinking and does not restart. Reapplying power will start things up again, then the data light stops blinking. Of course, no data is being received by the flood. I have rechecked all components and they are in the correct location. I have re-soldered all connections.

Any ideas on what to do next?
Thanks
Jim

Lynx Wireless DMX / 2 Ex/RX Units don't work
« on: October 22, 2014, 03:39:20 pm »
I built around 14 of the EX/RX wireless receivers about 2 years ago. All of them work great and have done so since I built them, except for 2. I have double and triple checked the component placement. All seems good. No cold or connected solder joints that I can find.

The power light comes on when connected to the Aether II. However,  the data light does not flash and the unit does not seem to be sending any data to the light controller. Other receivers work with the light controller, so that is not the issue.

Any troubleshooting ideas?
Thanks. Jim

Can anyone tell me how to setup Nutcracker in xlights and export the information so that it will work in LOR S-3? For the test that I have set up (eventually this is for a RGB sign) I have 2 DMX Universes set up in LOR. Each 168 node RGB light string (1 DMX Universe) is broken into 3 strands, so the matrix is 56 pixels wide. Each string makes 3 rows of 56 nodes each. I have set this up also in xlights, but can not make xlights control the strings (LOR does just fine), but this is another issue. I setup a new xlights sequence and then added an effect to the sequence (in color). I then exported the sequence to LOR. The exported file showed up as all white, no color at all. I can copy and paste into my regular sequence file, but of course it is still all white.

Is there a writeup somewhere (I looked but can't find one) on how to make this work properly, or can someone here in this forum tell me how to set this up?

Lynx Aeon / Re: Aeon Time Set Problem
« on: November 20, 2012, 01:33:16 pm »
Thanks all. I tried being slow about hitting the select button but that did not help. I did get it set. I waited until 30 minutes after the hour to set it. Now it is on time. This seems to be a problem that does not happen very often. It did not used to do this. Thanks again. Jim

Lynx Aeon / Aeon Time Set Problem
« on: November 20, 2012, 11:44:31 am »
I built my Aeon when it first came out and have loved it. It has worked great until a month or so ago. Now I am having a problem setting the time. One press of the select button and I can set the hour just fine. However, when I press the select button a second time to set the minutes, it returns to clock mode. Nothing I do seems to allow me to set the minutes. I have re-flashed the PIC and have even taken the battery out to start over. Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong? BTW Happy Thanksgiving. Jim.

The Porch / Pixelnet and LOR S3
« on: October 14, 2012, 12:34:04 pm »
I have not been very active in this community this past year because of being overly busy. I need to ask a question - and please don't everyone get mad, I have just not kept up with all of the developments. There used to be a forum on this site for LOR questions and comments. I am looking for some specific info but see that the LOR forum is gone. Can we use LOR software to run Pixelnet? If so where can I find exact setup information for this? If not what is the easiest software to transition to? I have LSP, but last year I had a problem because LSP software would not run LOR's CCRs and I have 10 in my show and really do not have the money to replace them. Does the new version of LSP correct this problem? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!!! Jim W
