Lynx Smart String / Re: About Ray using a higher current in LED.
« on: November 30, 2013, 03:30:59 am »
You really have to look at what you need when it comes to brightness. The TM1804s only run the LEDs at about 8ma per color where the WS2811s run at 18.5ma per color however the WS2811 are brightner. If you don't need the brightness and the current smart strings work for you then use them.

Problem is that some are saying the Technicolor use mor epower because of the regulator but that's totally misleading, they use more power because they are brighter since the WS2811 runs the LED closer to the manufactures specification.

Since it seems that the WS2811/12/12B is now a supported part with the existing code which is great.

Personally I'd stick with a true conformal coating designed for electronics. Google search for conformal coating will give you lots of information. Here is just one.

I can work with the WIN version but I'm guessing the Mac version won't be out until the WIN version has been fully checked and ready for Official release.

Side Note: I don't need it this year but hopefully there will be support for HLS files sometime just after the first of the year. It should be extremely easy to add the format since it's a flat compiled file. I'm guessing it's similar to an xLights sequence.

Lynx Smart String / Support for the WS2811 pixel controller.
« on: August 30, 2012, 06:08:38 am »
I was just wondering if the SSC might get an alternate firmware load to support the WS2811 pixel chip? The protocol differences between the  WS2811 and the TM1804 are minimal, the data stream format are the same just the bit cell timings are a little different. Heck, these two chips are even pinned out the same they are so close to each other.

This chip has several advantages over the TM1804. First it's a constant current chip so voltage drop in the pixel cable won't effect it as much as the TM1804. Second, there are many more variations in available pixel types than the TM1804. Lastly the pricing of WS2811 pixels are generally quite a bit less that the TM1804.

Each chip has it's place but considering how little the code would need to be modified it seems to me that supporting the WS2811 would be a very good idea.

Just my two cents and IMHO.

I have G4s and Core 2 Duos ... no G5s.

Sorry.

So have your tried it on your G4 with E1.31? I don't have any E1.31 hardware yet.

Hi Matt,

Question, Since I don't have any E1.31 hardware yet just how many universes using E1.31 do you think that xlights could drive on an iMac G5 based on the older Mac, I forget which one, you have? I'd likely be using the J1Sys hardware. It sure would be nice to put my old iMac G5 to work.

xlights / XLights and LOR S3 Visualizer
« on: June 14, 2012, 07:45:54 am »
This may be an off the wall idea but I think it would be great to be able to have xlights talk to LORs S3 Visualizer. I think they've done a good job on their Visualizer and it's a stand alone program that received it's commands via the network. Port address are known, and changeable, so I was wondering what it would take so that XLights could optionally send out a stream to the Visualizer? It would be nice to display on another computer what's going happening on the show computer.

As I said it's just an off the wall idea.

If you stitch the webbing close enough and tight enough they should hold with the aid of a little silicon.

Punching holes in the webbing should work well although I'd use the flat pixels. It's more compact and easier to stitch them in place.

Thanks Matt,

That was on my list of things to try. Normally you don't need drivers but what the heck.

Update: working on Lion, now to try my iMac G5. Wonder if can run a large number of channels? Only time will tell ;D

Matt,

I'm looking for why I'm having a problem with xLights finding the LOR dongle on the Mac. I'm running Lion but I do have Parallels running. As soon as my wife gets off her computer I'll try her's which is also Lion but no Parallels.

I'll try the G5 but I'll have to take a controller down and it's connected to a Singing Pumpkin face. Might be easier to take both the pumpkin and the controller ;D

There is a good book on making C++ programs portable between windows and the Mac. It's about $30 depending on where you get it from. If done right it's literally just a compile and build on which ever system your on. I may just have to fork out for the book ::)

Hot dang, I may be able to put my iMac G5 to work yet. Now doing the happy dance.

Now the big question, how well will my iMac G5 run a large show?????????

========================================================================================

Matt, what development environment do you use on Windows and the Mac? Also, how much work do you have to do too build the Mac version once the Windows version is working?

I'm wondering because I'd love to see Joe get HLS running on the Mac as well as the PC. He develops using C++ and just the Microsoft Foundation Class. That combination is not too bad to convert.

Let me be very blunt. Under no circumstances should you run without a GFCI. Your not only risking your own life but those of your family, friends and those watching your display. If someone gets shocked or killed your going to be responsible. You maybe even criminally responsible if it comes to light that the GFCI was removed.

If you can't or don't know how to fix the problem then please hire a licensed electrician. It's a small price to pay to save someone's life.

I'm sorry if I'm rubbing someone the wrong way but life is too fragile to not be blunt about this.

Not totally a xlights question but I have a LOR USB 4858. Is there a OSX driver, Lion, that will work with it?
