The Porch / RRowan's Color Picker...
« on: October 23, 2015, 05:21:31 pm »
...isn't on the Wiki anymore.  I'm using a new computer and can't find it on my old machine.

xLights/NC is great for effects, but I need some oranges to match more closely and to my knowledge the Color Picker is the best tool for the job.

Thanks,
MMS

My whole show is still up.  Until recently I had a glacier on the lawn (house faces north) which makes it hard to remove things.  My hope is to get things done this weekend (weather pending.)

I live on a corner so *IF* I were to make a pixel tree, I would do 270, otherwise 180 is sufficient for most applications.

I also agree with making the base smaller.  My mega tree (not pixel tree) is 12 feet high with ~6 foot diameter (ring is made of two 10 foot pieces of electrical conduit inserted into each other).

Taybrynn's tree is nice and looks very "clean".  The nodes are in PVC and attach to the metal frame.  It scrolls text and pictures no problem.  The videos don't do it justice.

Good song choices.  "Different" than TSO and Frozen!  :)

Great work as always!

I mentioned to you privately how much we enjoyed your show.  You definitely had the best use of a RGB matrix/mega tree that we saw (IMHO.)

Will you video the voiceover(s) at some point?  Would love to add it to my "portfolio."

Can't wait for next year's!

Being that this is my 4th season in the hobby, I'm pleased to announce the formation of Smock Dog Media to give you the perfect voice over and audio experience for your radio broadcasts.

Mine did that once this year... I was testing one LE, then when I reset it, they all came on.  I haven't seen it happen since, so I didn't think much about it.

I prefer the strip inside.  I like the diffused/neon look of the 200psi/thin wall PVC.  We used steam to make our arches, I know people that tie the ends to get the shape they want.  Just a matter of personal taste.

I have had good luck with Liquid Fence too.  I used to have bunnies living under the bump out of my house.  They still frolic and crap in my yard, but I haven't had any damaged cables this year (knock on wood!)  The ingredients is interesting.  I'm sure if you wanted to, you could probably make a similar home made concoction.  But, time is always of the essence.

Can't wait to see/hear your show this year!

I start my Christmas show the Saturday after Thanksgiving that way I can make any last minute adjustments during my "time off".  The beautiful thing about doing a Halloween show is that my arches and window frames are already in place and it's just a matter of assembling my mega tree and putting other small Christmas-related things out (I start that process in early November.)  Luckily the weather here in Colorado has been very light-friendly this year!

Ok guys thank you all for the replies.. I'm not using pixelnet yet so i just need a basic one for Lynx expresses.  Last time I used xlights i had a couple of problems with my show not starting but that was 2 years ago.

They've done a lot to xLights in the last 2 years.  In my opinion, it's easier (and more reliable) now.  Sean and the xLights/Nutcracker team provide great support.  And if need be, a lot of people on the forum(s) would be able to help you troubleshoot.

+1 for xLights.

It gets the job done!

The Porch / Re: Mounting Nodes to PVC
« on: October 08, 2014, 12:41:33 pm »
We use 1/2" PVC electrical conduit and a 13mm forstner bit.  33/64 works well too.  Make sure you ask for 1/4"-1/2" more spacing than what you'll use, or you'll be adding wire between the nodes in the corners.
