3-4 inches  but I have not  tested to confirm .

using building cloth to keep them aligned .

Will have video once I nail down the best spacing .
 
the mesh is 1/2 inch square grid and the pixels fit perfectly .

I am using After Effects -cs6 and photoshop .I  never used these programs before  so this is a bit of a sharp learning curve .

I will be using Premiere Pro to create the final video,
