Jim, Have you gotten anywhere with this yet? I checked to see if I had a spare crystal oscillator but no luck. Don't take this the wrong way, but did you pull the program jumper off the Zeus after programming? Everything is confirmed in the right orientation?

I had a dead string on mine. It turned out to be one of my water resistant connectors was bad The ones ray sells to connect the strings to the boards. It had a dead lead in it. Not to say that is your problem but try disconnecting the lights from the board and move them to another port to confirm if it is the board or the light string.

Ok, now I see it there now. It kind of hides there with all that is happening on the page. I went over that page many times and couldn't find it. Thanks

That is great information but for the life of me I couldn't find it. I still can't unless I click your link. Maybe if there was a link to it with the Zeus build info?

I was curious to what people are achieving out of their Zeus's

Distance to first node and wire used.
Distance between null nodes.
Total node counts and length to last node.

I currently have 6' before my first node using rays three wire cord and his water resistant disconnect plugs. My total nodes are 126 per string.

With this layout I was pretty sure I wouldn't have any problems. My nodes are nice and bright to the last one and respond well.

I was wondering what people are getting out of their setup when they push the limits.

I would double check all those solder joints in addition to tbone321's suggestions. I had bought a low power stereo microscope for inspecting boards. It has helped my find things many times over. My vision isn't the greatest but with that scope I have eagle eyes.  :)

Would you be planning on adding the option to the Zeus 8 as well ?
.  I was not planning it as space may be an issue. Not sure yet.

RJ

The Zeus 16 ver2 is saving me this year. I forgot I ordered two of them and was trying to figure out how to solve my issues with the hardware I had. My situation could have taken advantage of the Zeus 8 with the selectable universes if one was available. My situation is five 18 x 42 matrixes wrapped around palm tree trunks. I am using six 128 node strings. The problems were 2304 channels per matrix and the trees being at least 20 feet apart with only 4 universes of 4096 channels. Some are a further distance then that. I would have been wasting a bunch of channels, Zeus ports and boards to get it done. I know there are more parts I could buy to get around the issues but when I realized I had the Zeus 16 ver2 boards it made my day. It will allow me to use those channels on the other universes that would have gone to waist. If the Zeus 8 had the ability to fit this option it could have been done with five of them and not having to use the 16. I appreciate your designs and hope one day to see the option on all Zeus Boards. Thanks again.

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned.

I live in FL and have a lot of palm trees. What I would like to see is the ability to have a 360 degree matrix or pole like the Tree Model. Maybe the Tree model could have the ability to open up the top or peak of the tree to be equal to the bottom like I have seen in adjustable previews. Maybe a Pole or Post Model with up to 360 degrees like the Tree Model? I'm thinking candy canes. I know I can do this in the field but I could be helpful to see it in NutCracker. Thanks and a great job.

Lynx Zeus / Re: Zeus 8 Power Supply

I'm pushing around 12.6 out of a few power supplies I have. Do you think this is to much? I was planning on using them with Zeus 8, 16 and the Active Hub. It will push up to 69 amps on the 12 volt side.

tbone, What I have is the Sharp Stereo Microscope 20X-40X-80X, SE304-PZ from AmScope. The price on their web site was around what I had paid for it a few years ago.

RJ, This was from the Jan 2012 Coop. I would have never guessed anyone would attempt to install those with how small they are. In that case I would say it wasn't that bad. The large chip looked really good.

tbone, I will have to check to see which one I bought when I get home tomorrow. It is a low power stereo microscope. It has a few different power levels. I use mine on the lowest setting with the PCB's and it is more then enough to check the solder points. Any closer and it wouldn't be practical for the PCB's we use.

Problem Solved!!

I took another look at the factory installed chip after reading some older post. RJ had commented about a bad batch of boards. Under the scope I used a small needle to push on some of the pins that were offset from where they really should have been on the smaller chip. Well, there were multiple pins not connected although they looked like they had been. I retouched them up with just the iron but not using any additional solder. I then rechecked the pins and all was ok. I hooked it up to test it out and it works perfect. The large chip was installed properly. I should probably check the other EtherDongel since I bought them at the same Coop.  I highly recommend one of these low power stereo scopes. I has paid for itself ten fold. Plus it's just fun to look at stuff with.

I may have found the problem. There are some loose pins on the factory installed chips with the low power microscope. This isn't gonna be fun.
