Getting started with Light Animation / Re: E 1.31 or USB Dongle
« on: March 13, 2017, 01:38:27 pm »
A Pi running the free Falcon Player software (FPP) can output DMX or pixelnet using cheap USB dongles.  An adapter like the PiCap allows the Pi to control up to 2000 ws281x pixels directly and it also can output a single DMX or pixelnet universe via the onboard RJ45 connector.  FPP can also drive any future E1.31 controllers at the same time as all of the above.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if this sync packet or protocol is documented anywhere?  :)

The Porch / Re: Random lights turning on
« on: November 20, 2016, 07:01:12 am »
The expresses have been known to do that, I had the same problem.  As long as they are receiving DMX data you are ok, but if the incoming DMX signal stops then they may eventually turn on channels randomly.

I didn't know FPP would work with a USB DMX Dongle.  Will it work with my old Vixen sequences or is it time to upgrade?

I believe that FPP has one of the most extensive lists of supported Channel Output methods of any player out there, but I am a little biased.  :)  FPP supports a lot of older channel output methods to allow users to bridge the gap or migrate from legacy hardware into the latest and greatest.

FPP uses the FSEQ file format as its native file format.  xLights switched its native format from XSEQ to FSEQ with the xLights v4 release.  As tbone mentioned, you can also use xLights to convert to FSEQ from numerous other sequencer formats including Vixen.  Vixen3 has native support for exporting the FSEQ format.  I believe that macebobo was also looking at adding FSEQ export to Vixen+ but I don't know if that even made it out of beta.

Yes.

When I had LE's, I ran the 3-conductor monoprice cables and just carried the grounds through to the receptacles.  I figured that one day I might plug in something with a ground so I was prepared and I also liked the cleaner look of the black round cables vs a bundle of SPT or Dollar Store extension cords.

The Porch / Re: Waterproof Spray

I use Corrosion-X on the ones I have sprayed.  I think I picked it up from Amazon a few years ago.  On some well-protected boards I haven't even bothered.

Sale/Trade / FS: Active Hubs
« on: October 28, 2016, 03:00:17 am »
I have the following assembled items for sale which I did not use last year and won't need this year either.  These are all used with specific notes for each listed below.

Quantity - Item

1 - Lynx Active Hub with 12V power option - $60
This hub is one of the ones had a missing trace which has been corrected using a wire on the back side of
the hub.  It is fully functioning.

1 - Lynx Active Hub without 12V power option - $55
This hub has 2 bad fuses.  I will include extra fuses, or I will solder them on prior to sale.

SOLD - 8 - Lynx SSC v4 with female 3-core pigtails and RJ45 plug pigtails - $6 each
All of these are in 1.25" PCV pipe.  These only have the one end cap with both wires coming out.
These have RJ45 plugs and were plugged directly into one of the active hubs above inside a Walmart battery box.
3-core pigtails are from a DLA COOP.

SOLD - 2 - Lynx SSC v4 with female 3-core pigtails and RJ45 jack pigtails - $7 each
Both of these are in 1.25" PVC pipe and have both end caps.  Both wires come out the same end cap.
3-core pigtails and RJ45 jack pigtails are from a DLA COOP.

Some boards have been sprayed with Corrosion-X.

I can post pictures if needed.

Prices do not include paypal or shipping.

Lynx USB DMX Dongle / Re: wireless "USB" DMX dongle?
« on: June 30, 2016, 11:12:28 pm »
Put the Pi in bridge mode during the off-season and you can test sequences while creating them by sending E1.31 to the Pi.  When ready to play on the Pi, put FPP back in standalone mode, upload your fseq files and play directly on the Pi.

FPP supports driving both ws2801 and ws281x/tm1804 pixels connected directly to the Pi GPIO header.  There was an issue with the Pi v2 B but that has been resolved in the master branch so the v2 B works now and we expect the Zero does as well since it is more like a B+ than a v2B.

What player are you using?  Some can use those USB rs485 dongles to output PixelNet.

EDIT:  I saw you say Pi Zero in another thread.  If you hookup a rs485 chip to the onboard serial port on the Pi GPIO header, you may be able to use it to send PixelNet.  I need to test that sometime on the zero but I think FPP supports PixelNet on the onboard serial, IIRC.

Sale/Trade / SOLD: Five Lynx Express v5
« on: January 12, 2016, 03:22:36 pm »
SOLD 3x - Lynx Express v5 assembled in CG-1500 w/ power cords - $105 each
These are 100% working units, they were just pulled in from the yard.
The open-case attached picture is of one of them.  The boards have
been sprayed with Corrosion-X since I live in the PNW.  One of these
is in a CG-1500 that has been painted green.

SOLD 1x - Lynx Express v5 assembled in CG-1500 w/ power cords - $95
This unit has a problem with the channel number display.  I believe
the chip is bad. The display works sometimes but not others and sometimes
it is the middle digit missing and sometimes it is another one, IIRC.
Other than that, the unit functions correctly, it has served me well.
This board has also been sprayed with Corrosion-X.  This is in a
CG-1500 that has been painted green.

SOLD 1x - Lynx Express v5 assembled but without case or cords - $75
This was my spare unit, so it has been built and tested but has never
been out in the yard.  This unit has NOT been sprayed with Corrosion-X.

The LE's were also cleaned with PCB cleaner as well, but still may have
some of the white residue on the solder side.

The input power cords are 'Y' cords with one plug and the cord has a 'Y'
in it with two outputs and each output going to a separate input on the
LE.   The output power cords are all 2' 3-wire monoprice extension cords
with the grounds connected even though we don't need it normally.  There
is about 18" of cord sticking out the bottom of the CG-1500.

Paypal and shipping are not included.

Shipping will be from 98264 zip.  If you are interested in these, let me know
what you want and I can put them in a box and weigh them and give you a total cost.

The Porch / Re: How does the ethernet data stream work?
« on: December 27, 2015, 06:21:56 pm »
How many universes are you sending from xLights?  I think you need to send 32 if you are using a EtherDongle.  Are you using the same output config with FPP as with xLights?
