Sean,

From your thread below:

"Remember when you are all done to run
You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login.
So that the newly created gifs can be added into the database.
Now you can go view (and copy) effects that you see in your local install."

I stop the download program after 23 hours of running with 75 new folders and 17K new files.

I see all the individual folders and animated GIF's.  What does "create_gallery.php" do?  And, what does "add to database mean"?

CORRECTION:  I now see what the "create_gallery.php" does.  That is to cool!!!!!!  Gallery now has 3812 GIFs.

Perfect......that seems to have fixed the problem.  I see the files being created.  Most files being generated  are "green", however, some are indicating "skipping" or "rebuilding".

I downloaded the new code tree about 30 minutes ago and I created a M16_50.dat file.  I see the file in C:\xampp\htdocs\nutcracker\targets\987 and C:\xampp\htdocs\nutcracker\targets\2.  When I run "Rebuild the effect gallary......", I get an error at the very bottom of the screen which says:  failed to copy C:\xampp\htdocs\nutcracker\targets/2/M16_50.dat to C:\xampp\htdocs\nutcracker\targets/2/M16_50.dat.

Any suggestions on what happened?

Sean,

XAMPP and Chrome seems to be best combination for my computer setup for local install.  I tried all the effects successfully except for Plasma.  Plasma seems to lock up the program.  I have to exit out of the program before the program will respond.  Thanks for all your help.

Sean,

I use IE but will try Chrome.  I just noticed that after make multiple changing to a saved effect that the GIF never changed.

As far as the effects that never developed a solution or GIF, I didn't record the effects.  I spent a couple of hours playing with the effects generator and really didn't start making note of the problems I was having until close to the end of my play session.  I'll go back into NutCracker this weekend and let you know.

As far as the countdown timer effect, I was merrily trying to duplicate the coutdown timer annoucement thread you sent out on 29 Dec which resulted in the error.

I installed NutCracker tonight and have tried about 6-8 effect so far and below are my observations:

1. In order to change an existing effect, you have to give it a new name (I guess you can’t modify saved effects).
2. Count Down Timer:  I get an error “Notice: Undefined offset: 7 in C:\xampp\htdocs\nutcracker\effects\f_countdown.php on line 301”
3. I didn’t take note of effect names but some when I “submit the form”, the final screen and GIF never comes up (i.e. after about 10 minutes).  So, not sure whether the program is still crunching or the program has just stop working.

However, so far, the effects which do work are GREAT.

Ok.  Deleted the gnuplot path and re-defined it.  Looks like it works now.  Before, I would get an error about the gnuplot was not loaded.

Thanks for your help.

I've created  a few effect now.  Anyway to delete some of the effects or model files?

Yes, using Xampp was a much easier and straight forward installation and everything seems to be working.  Next question once I generate an effect, how to produce an animated GIF?

The strange thing was that it worked once after I finally got it all installed.  Then slowly stop working.  I uninstalled everything and will try xampp.  I also uninstalled Skype but this probably was not the problem.  Would it have anthing to do with my security software (McAfee Total Protection)?

Is the local install process exactly the same with Xampp as with WAMP?

Ok, I finally got all the steps installed (1-7 steps) as a local host, however, in order to install the steps requiring the local host,  I had to insert the local port number (100) into the path (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

So, in summary, it best to do a local install of the NutCracker software and the local install will also generate animated GIF's.  Thanks.

Sean,

I’ll been out to the NutCracker web site and I’m really impressed with what you have developed and setup.  Up to now, I’ve tried a few online target models and effects and have exported these to LOR.  As far as the exported extension issue (xml), I just renamed the file extension (lms for LOR).  However, the exported file opens up in LOR as all the channels being LOR controllers rather than DMX.  Is there something I doing which is causing this?

I understand installing the software local on my computer is a much more efficient way to use the software.  Other than speed, are there other advantages to doing a local install?

Also, on the NutCracker web site, there are simulations of some of your example effects.  How were the simulations created?

Thanks, Mike
