Vixen / Re: Demo Vixen sequence with preview image?

Answer my own dumb question - the Palombo sequences in You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login are just what I needed. I remember trying to download this earlier, and couldn't open the zip file. It really helps to let the whole thing download ...

Thanks for sharing, Tony!

Vixen / Demo Vixen sequence with preview image?
« on: June 17, 2010, 06:59:19 pm »
I'm trying to interest some friends in participating in my Christmas light plans, and I would like to show them a good demo of Vixen. I don't have a sequence of my own that I like - can anyone point me to a good demo Vixen sequence?

Ideally, it would not be too complicated, but would show off the various features, be synchronized to a common tune, and would have a decent preview image setup.

I've looked around at the various sequence postings, but I can't tell by looking which have a preview setup.

Any suggestions?

Lynx Express / Re: List of Light Curves with Pictures

I would love to be sure I was buying lights that are known to work with the LE, that already have light curves.

How about another column on the table for sources and vendor part numbers? This wouldn't matter much for the big box lights, but I'd like to know I'm buying the right thing before I order cases from an on-line vendor.

Thanks for the info, RJ. Any plans for a light-normalizer kit?  :)

Once I get some serious quantities of lights, I will send you some samples if necessary.  I can see from the video and from my testing that the normalization makes a huge difference. What I'm doing now is not worth your time for sure, so I'll hold off until I have some real hardware.  I can see a real incentive to buy what you already have in the tables - I hope the light vendors have realized that! You might want to add a purchase link field to the XML file ...

If you ever do publish the normalization table specification, I will probably take a whack at a dumb program to generate them, but it isn't terribly critical.

I bought cords from Americord, but only receive 29 of the 32 I ordered - balance on backorder. I think you did better on price, although these are really nice cords.

I have a bunch of stuff in the barn that I bought last year on cutout, and I don't even remember what the brands are.  They tend to be standard mini incandescents, so one of the supplied curves will probably work for those.

I'm currently working on a (very) small Halloween display for a trunk-or-treat event.  I'm thinking single C7 bulbs per channel in pumpkins.  I'm seeing that the different colors of the same brand bulb have significantly different characteristics.  For example, blue turns on at about 15 and maxes at 255, red turns on at 3 and hits the blue max at 176.  I would like to do a dumb linear curve between the observed unnormalized min and max points.

If the format is proprietary, I guess I can't do that.

Lynx Express / Light normalization questions
« on: October 14, 2009, 03:40:41 pm »
I'm getting to the point to where I'm thinking about what lights I'm using and how to normalize them.  The easy solution is to buy lights that are already on the list, but I have a pile of stuff lying around that I would like to use in the short term.

RJ, do you publish the specifications for your normalization table?  I was wondering if I could dummy up something that would work better than the default table, even if it wasn't as good as sending you the string for testing. I'm pretty sure you don't want to mess with my previous year's leftovers!

Yes, I'm slow, but my first Express is working with the dongle and Vixen - actual blinky flashy under my control.  I don't know if I'm going to get a Christmas show done this year, but I'm going to experiment and plan at least.

Mouser it is.  I have a few things I need for a ham radio project, so I'll get my shipping's worth.

Lynx Express / My first Lynx Express passes self-test!

My first Lynx Express passed self-test today - on to build the second one. My dongle is soldered up, but untested so far, probably should try it next without waiting for the official case. Thanks to everyone involved with the manual - between the text and the video, things went well.  The second one should look better.

I did manage to lose one 3023 optocoupler and smash a pin on one of the RS-485 chips, so I'll need to replace them before I can get two boards working simultaneously. My local Frys wasn't much help. Should I try hard to get identical replacment parts, or can I substitute? Worst case, I pay Mouser $1.78 plus $7 shipping.

Now, where do I find 32 cheap cords ...

If anyone is interested, ukewarrior has sold out a couple of batches of the Vastelec transmitter board, and is judging interest in another order. See You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login for details.

Thank you John and Ron for the pointer to the other thread.  That is good info, and makes me more comfortable trying one.  I can get one on ebay with more confidence if I can't get one from ukewarrior.

Has anyone tried this 30mW transmitter board - $36 on ebay?
