The Porch / Re: List of songs to sequence
« on: February 08, 2016, 10:00:06 pm »
I am currently working on "Amazing Grace Party Version" by Yule and I plan to add "Angels we have heard on high " by the Brian Setzer Orchestra and "Emmanuel" by Michael W. Smith for 2016.   I currently have the following songs sequenced (all of which I will have to re-do because I am converting my AC minitrees to RGB....):
Barking Dogs Jingle Bells
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (Andy Williams' version)
Sleigh Ride (orchestral/instrumental version)
Sugar Plum Fairy Remix (Groove Gallery)
Fireflies (TSO)
Stille Nacht (Mannheim Steamroller(MS))
Traditions of Christmas (MS)
God Rest ye merry, Gentlemen (MS)
Linus & Lucy (Vince Guaraldi Trio)
Carol of the Bells (David Foster version)
Do you want to build a snowman? (Frozen)
Happy Birthday Jesus
We need a little Christmas (Percy Faith)

xlights!!    Love it.   Tremendous support and very well-done piece of software!!
did I mention it is freeware?

Sean & co. are queuing up an intensive 2 day training session ~mid April this year--you can either go to it in Vegas or stream it.

Thanks so much for sharing that.   I have been having problems with several aspects of my display and was just asking myself last night if I really want to keep doing this or not...    You have ENCOURAGED me!!   thx.

Lynx Smart String / Re: Manual for Active Hub

Followup to the earlier posts--is there a "how to" regarding the relationship between the pixelnet channels and the physical ports on the active hub?  Thanks!

Never mind--dug around some more in the wiki and found the network schematic.  Very simple setup with respect to port assignments on the hub.   Woohoo even I can understand that readily!!!!

This is pretty much what I figured the answer would be.  Thanks Tbone.  I appreciate the response!!  Well I might kluge it up and do what you said--send 5V directly to the controllers and just the signal on the cat5.  Arrgh.  Thx.

I know this is an older post, but I have kind of a similar power question.   I purchased & assembled 2 active hubs earlier this year and had planned to use WS2811 5V strips, but now that I have read the controller descriptions more closely I found out the controllers basically pass through the input voltage as output to the strips.   Doh on my part....  So, I really should have bought WS2811 12V strips for use with these hubs and the ATX power supplies, etc..

My question is--would the 5V voltage regulators installed per the 12V option allow me to use my 5V strips with the DLA active hubs powered by ATX power supplies??
Thanks in advance.

Please put me in for one kit #1.
Thanks for running this coop.

Thanks yet again for more GREAT replies!   I really appreciate your guidance.  Good points made on flashing, programming, sequencing, etc.....

Thanks so much for the replies.  Guess I will need to invest in a PICkit setup.  I plan to use some of the smaller controllers (SSC type) from another website.  Don't wanna get anyone wound up by mentioning details here....  I will have to see if those controllers will be delivered programmed or if I will need to get a PICkit.  Anyway, thanks again for the replies!

Thx TBone.  I do not plan to do any DMX conversions.  I intend to learn & use pixelnet to drive miniature smart controllers.  I really appreciate the help.  If I "do" ever need to flash any chips, looks like I would need something like the Microchip "PICkit 3 starter kit"...  ??

THANKS VERY MUCH

Will I need a "tool" of some sort to program the PIC??  Thanks in advance!

I soldered my first active hub together two weekends ago.  Took me a while, but that is because I haven't put many PCBs together so I am SLOOOOW...   Anyway, now that I have the PCB assembled, do I need to do any programming of anything before I power it up & put it into use?

The Porch / Re: MiniTree
« on: May 18, 2014, 10:33:28 pm »
I have made 16 mini trees (regular incans wrapped...) for my first year (last year).   I held the top together using small hose clamps.  A little knuckle dragging solution, but it worked pretty well.  I tried ty wraps, but I found that they "slip off" of the top of the tree, so I went to the ty wraps.  I just read last night on the spring planet Christmas magazine that they use washers--slip them over the three ends and it kinda locks them in place.  Some ideas for ya...

Same here.  I also would love to see a video on the DLA components.  I will be using DLA hubs this year and am in the same boat; 2nd year newbie here.....

Finished the first one.  I have only built a few boards, so I am slooooow.   But I am getting better...   Little by little.  It is kinda fun learning how to solder.  Woulda never figured I would be a solder-dude!!

Second one next weekend.  Woohoo!!!

By the way, thx Cap.
