I'd have to say that your song that was going between 191 and 192 is VBR.  The bitrate is a lookup value in each frame of data, ie, no calculation is required if the bitrate value in the given frame is non-zero, and 191 isn't one of the lookup values.

I use winamp - watch the bitrate as you play the song.  If it changes, it's VBR.

Before everyone gets crazy checking all their songs though, I think it would be more prudent for someone confirm one of their problem sequences is due to VBR.

You really need to use an audio program to determine the bit rate - windows explorer isn't the right tool.  Audacity may do it - not sure.  There's a free program called You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login that will inspect the files for you, or if you're good with a hex editor, you can see for yourself You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - the 9th hex character should be 0 for VBR.

I wonder if it has to do with differences in the MP3 encoding.  You might want to look to see if your problem MP3s have been encoded with You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login - this is basically a cheat that allows MP3 files to be smaller when less data is needed.  I know that I've heard of sequencing issues in the past using MP3s that use VBR.

Lynx Conductor / CF Socket Part # aka Be careful removing your Conductor
« on: November 30, 2012, 11:11:09 am »
I need to order another CF socket after a lapse in judgement while removing the Conductor from the Etherdongle.  Does anyone know the part number?

I don't think I should bother trying to straighten and resolder these pins.  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I'd imagine that the code changes are relatively small to get DMX firmware... and that small change means saving $60+ for the active hub.

I got stuck thinking that a show was one massive data file that contained all sequences including silence.   <fp.  I'll go ahead and up the meds tonight.  ;)

What I'm trying to understand is - let's say I want to define a show as seq1, seq2, and seq3.  These correspond to audio files 1.mp3, 2.mp3, and 3.mp3.

I'm writing a converter application to take my sequences and put them into conductor format.  The output .seq file will have data for seq1, then some silence (I think the assumption is 4 seconds), then seq2, silence, and seq3.  When the schedule is made, I assume that outputFile.seq will be matched up with 1.mp3, 2.mp3, and 3.mp3.  That's cool too.

Is the silence of 4 seconds hardcoded into the conductor?  Or, is there a way for the conductor to know when it should start playing the next mp3?  And if it's hardcoded, does this still work okay as the number of songs in a show gets large (ie, do we begin to see sync issues between the music and lights as we get into 20, 30, or more songs in a show)?

Trial and error will take care of this, but I didn't know if anyone had more insight into the specifics.

The file format makes sense - output channel data in order per the spec.  Then there is silence for X seconds.  Then blast out the next sequence's channel data.  This all gets saved to a .seq file.

The memory card has one .seq file for each show and that's what gets put into the schedule.

How does the conductor know which mp3 file to play and when to play it?  Or is it one mp3 per .seq file?

The current firmware is PixelNet only. The DMX firmware has not been created. I wanted to get a final firmware for the conductor and slave before modifing it to be DMX.

The Slave firmware will be next, then the DMX firmware for both. All runs on the same hardware.

RJ

Thanks for clearing that up for me so i don't blindly join the coop without unknowingly not being able to use it.
Depending on the price I may go ahead and get on the coop with the hopes of the DMX firmware being released before this season.
Thanks for all the hard work to you and all of our beta testers for putting up with all our ranting about it being released

Todd

Just to be clear - if you have an You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, you can get a DMX universe out of a pixelnet stream.  I hope I understand this correctly...?

You said it will do pixelnet, but what about dmx?

That is my question too.

I figure it will since the  etherdongle can handle 2048 channels of dmx, I just wanna be sure.

The first post in You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login said it would handle 4 DMX universes with different firmware, not sure if that still applies, but if so, the active hub would not be needed.
