Thank you for the replies. I was actually able to figure my problem out. I tried programming some SSC boards and was successful so figured it had to be something simple. I was bouncing around the wiki and seen that I had to place a new dat file into the pickit 3 directory. Once I replaced the dat file, I was able to see PIC32MX795F512L in the device drop down. Once I seen that, just load hex, write and verify.

have you checked the pickit with a known working device?
