Need ideas for a SS project and not have to take out a loan for the nodes

Concerning attaching the flex strips for arches -  take a look at dmoore's video (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login) starting at about 1:52 you'll see some nice shots of flex strips attached in this manner.

I took a look at this site tonight for the first time and it really changed my preconceptions about coro and whether or not to use it. All I can say is wow. I'm really impressed how diffusing the light really changes the overall look. Totally cool. I definitely plan to use some of the diffusers in my holiday display.

Perhaps you could do some fireworks. Combine regualr LED lights for the base and the SS LEDs for the "Blossom"  Using the SS LEDs would allow you to do many variations of the center part and the fingers of the blossom.

Just a thought.
