Lights Gone
« on: December 09, 2011, 08:20:38 pm »
16 Days till christmas, Needed one strand of 100 count white on green wire.
Home Depot has nothing of interest
Lowes is darn near empty.
Target has lots of overpriced stuff, but not what I need.
Walmart is about the same, but already looking thing.
Finally got a $5 strand at Bed Bath and Beyond....

Depressing.

I was going to start a similar thread after making the rounds today. This message just in...for those of us who don't buy our lights online (I'm talking LEDs here), there will be no after Christmas sale this year. LEDs have finally struck a chord with the common man and the shelves are already bare.

Home Depot - been dead to me since they switched to overpriced Martha Stewart crap last year, and they offered zero price breaks this year. So who cares what they have left.
Target - Phillips strings at full retail all season. They are dead to me as well, but might have some closeouts...I care less.
Lowes - Christmas is over; at least here in the Tampa, FL area. Just a few scraps pushed into the isle
Costco - junk, skip it
Sams Club - lots of warm white and multis left ...I use zero warm white. $19 for 200ct reels
Walmart - Quite a bit of stock left depending on stores. Again, no sales, they have been full price all season.
Big Lots - Always the best deal on quality lights year after year. Sales had C6 60ct LED strings for as low as 7$ during the season, and thats why the shelves are bare.
KMart - They have a ton of stock and had great sales the past month, up to 50% off. After Thanksgiving everything went back up, but prices are now about 35% off. 50ct strings $6, 200ct LED C3 35' reels for $19.
Sears - double retail all season, no sales. The same strings Kmart has for $10 more....and people are buying them because the shelves are bare.
Walgreens - The only retail store that has green LED strings for the past two years. Great quality full wave. C6 50ct strings just went on closeout for $6.49. I bought 20+ boxes and will keep watching to see of they go lower.

Good luck...

I'm praying for the economy to awake and the shelves to be loaded with LED's.  Am I asking for to much for Christmas?

You are asking too much and that will probably never happen again.  Stores have found it to be MUCH more profitable to do it this way so why change.  In the past, stores were more customer oriented and made sure that they had more than enough stock to fill the customers need.  After all, the stores reputation and customer loyalty depended on it.  Now, thanks to the internet, cell phones, and peoples attitudes due to this tech, customer loyalty is a thing of the past so the stores primary objective is to make money and the hell with the rest of it.  Since I really don't see the internet dissapearing any time soon or peoples attitudes changing much, I wouldn't expect the stores to changhe much either so all I can say is get used to it and buy your bulk lighting on-line.
If at first you don't succeed,

I already gave a whole bag of old lights to the recycling center.  This might help you.

I know this doesn't help right now....but what I did was waited 6 months for the big CDI sale in June/July.  If you can hold off a year, you can get cases of lights for around $150 for white and about $170 a case for colors.  These are for full wave (dimmable) LED 70 count strands on green wire.

aren't you in the York area? If so, I still have about 2000 green and 1800 red and 800 blue. Just drop me a line.
Its the most wonderful time of the year.
