What software to make a video with?
« on: March 06, 2012, 12:21:25 am »
I want to capture the computer screen and start making some training videos for the Nutcracker. I was thinking of posting them on Vimeo.

What software would you recommend for recording the computer screen?

thanks

I used camstudio. I capyured maybe one minute, it created a 1gb file. vimeo only allows 500mbytes. What settings did you use to keep the file small?

thanks

I don't recall the settings I used off the top of my head.  I will see if I can determine the settings I used.

Something you might check out if you don't need full video is Debug Mode Wax.  It's freeware and I've used it to produce several how-to's.  It worked great for my uses.  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

I use Jing by techsmith.

It has a free version.  it records to .swf format that can be opened with a web browser.  I don't know if there is a recording limit or not.

Camstudio will create a raw file that it uses for editing... it can be large.
Later you "produce" a video and fix the size and quality.

This week I captured a video conference call with a slide presentation -- it was a 1 hour presentation.  To 'produce' a mp4 file I selected high definition (1280x??) and it generated a quality file with sound that was 54MB.

Having tried Jing, i think i will use it. It has had the easiest interface to use.
It is  Free and can record 5 minutes, that should plenty for tutorials. The next step up, Camtasia jumps to $299 for a license.
Ill keep it under 5 minytes.

thanks
