SSC/DSC enclosure....

I know people usually enclose these in PVC, but has anyone tried one of these:

I spoke to them and they wholesale for $3.30(ea) in packs of 24. For larger quantities they thought they could get down around $3.00.

You can get them at ACE Hardware if anyone wants to see how they might work (if someone has not already).

Quite a bit more expensive and bulky (8"x3"), but would be much more convenient than cutting and drilling PVC. Plus you wouldn't have to remember to put the caps on the wires before soldering the ends on! Good find, thanks!

Yeah, at $6 not all that appealing unless you did not have many....at $3.30 it was peaking my interest.

Still more expensive than PVC, but it's already green and seems a bit more convenient (especially if you need to work on the controller).

With this type of enclusore I wonder if the SSC/DSC could be designed to have an RJ-45 plug on the board and you bring your patch cable straight inside here rather than needing the pigtails anymore....Seems like lots of water/corrosion discussion around them (maybe this would help?).

I'm fine with the PVC ... but have often thought it would be nice to find something we normally "throw away" and make it something useful for the hobby.

One of the nicer things I seem to always throw away are those coffee creamer containers ... which have nice flip lids on them.

Also, the apple cases, like the case for the iphone or ipad seem really nice (and clear) but what to do with them?  LOL

i've taped a note onto the thinwall pvc to "don't forget the cap!" while i make them.

It has happened to me a few. Now I just thread the caps on all pigtails and connectors before I start soldering.

+1 for this.  I also put the heat shrink tubing on all of the wires I plan to solder before picking up the iron.

So true!  I have to admit that for at least some of my SSC's when I 'forgot' the PVC end caps, I ended up tossing them in an unused SS  hub enclosure, which seems to fit perfectly.  A bit bulky, though....
