Lynx USB DMX Dongle / Re: usb dongle broke looking for a little advice
« on: January 16, 2015, 03:40:58 pm »
I reflashed and now it's working.  Good thing I print out all the manuals.  I found my old chicken scratch on how to build the pickit 2/3 programmer using my pickit 2 and a breadboard.

I'm having a similar issue.  I plug it into the computer, the red light comes on,  the computer recognizes it, assigns a com port, reports it is ftdi working correctly.  I use Freestyler to do my testing and the message when I load is "Error creating output thread".  This error typically happens if you have the wrong com port but I checked and it's the right one.

What should I try testing.  It seems like the USB part is working.  As an FYI,  the board is labeled V2.0 Lynx Dongle.

Lynx Wireless DMX / Re: Wireless Receiver - Lights blinking

Functioning devices are connected to a Ren48lsd running DMX and an SS16 (renard also running in DMX mode). The Ren48LSD has been up and running led floods and superstrips on my house for almost 2 years.  I run them all year round.

I tried two different configurations:
1) TX/RX connected through Cat 5 to a Ren4Flood controlling a 4 channel LED flood (12 V)
2) EX/RX connected directly to the sockets of a 485 (485 chip removed) as documented in the mod on line here.  (Same Ren4Flood)

Note when I connect the Ren4Flood directly to my DMX splitter (where my Transmitter is), it works fine.  Transmitter is also controlling other TX/RX boards outside (also working fine)

I tried re-orienting the receiver with relation to the transmitter.

Note: Transmitter is in on corner of a room and my workbench is in the other (~15' away line of sight)

Lynx Wireless DMX / Wireless Receiver - Lights blinking
« on: November 19, 2013, 06:35:42 pm »
I have several RX/TX receivers and an EX/RX receiver.   They power up, Green data light is blinking and they are receiving the correct stream since a test light I have displays the right channels when I turn them on.  The issue is that if I turn up a channel all the way,  the test lights blink.  It seem like the DMX transmission is getting interruppted.  I have 1 TX/RX unit that is working flawlessly in Transmit mode.  2 TX/RX that are also working flawlessly.  The issue is another two TX/RX and and EX/RX.

Any ideas on what I can check?

PK, that is the same one I"m getting for the new code.

I was wondering about the new Firmware on the wiki.   Are the listed checksums still valid?
    Checksums
    Pickit2 - 1E69
    Pickit3 - 1EE1

I have not been able to get my Rx/TX v2's to work since I built them and when I flashed the pics with the new code, I got a different checksum.

I'm going to post my problem in a new thread but I thought this comment was relevant for this thread.

Lynx USB DMX Dongle / Troubleshooting a DMX Dongle
« on: October 29, 2011, 07:46:53 pm »
I'm having a problem with my DMX Dongle.  I flashed the memory as explained, and it appears to flash correctly.  I've checked and re-checked all the solder connections.  I get the steady Red LED when plugged into the computer.  The computer already has the correct drivers because other Enttec Pro compatible dongles work fine.  When I plug in and unplug the device,  the device manager assigns COM 16.  The one thing I do notice is that in device manager, the type of device is just USB not the FTDI that I see with other dongles.

For basic testing purposes I use software called Freestyler.  It generates the following error: Error Creating Output Thread,   In Vixen it tells me COM port errors.  When I plug in and unplug the device,  the device manager assigns COM 16.

I'm looking for some help troubleshooting this.  How do the "TEST" jumper pins work.

THanks

pk, thanks.  that is the answer I was looking for.  I'll wire it up and see what I get.

Being relatively new to the programming your own PIC realm.  I've done many 16F688's  using my Pickit2.  For those I just ran the MLAB software and it worked fine.  Here are my questions.

1) Wiki says not to use MLAB but to use Pickit 2 or 3.  My Pickit 2 came with MLAB.  What am I missing here?
2)  My pickit 2 only has a 20 pin jack.  How do you program the 28 pin dongle PIC?

Can I use the simple Pickit3 breadboard jumpers shown for the "Barebones way to program a PIC18f with a pickit3"

Lynx Wireless DMX / Wireless Troubleshooting
« on: June 08, 2011, 10:24:35 am »
I've assembled 3 units and I'm having an issue with one of them.  I connected a PICIT2 to the good ones and they look fine.  WHen I connect the 'bad board' to the PICKIT I get an "Unable to establish a valid Vdd on the target (Attempted 3.5V - Read 0V).

When I pop the PIC out of the 'bad board' and put it in a good one, I get a good PICKIT response from the good board.  That tells me the chip itself is okay and that there is something going on with my board.  I've re-flowed all the connections and I'm at a loss what could be happening.  Any help would be appreciated.  Is there a schmeatic for the new Rx/TX boards anywhere that I can use to troubleshoot?  Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Thanks
Michael

Lynx Wireless DMX / LED Status Lights
« on: June 03, 2011, 11:48:57 am »
I just completed building 3 RX/TX units and I'm having some issues with them.  I understand the Red power light should be steady when power is applied (it is on all 3 units).   What should the green light be doing.  I know it is the DMX signal but should it be steady on when a DMX signal is present or does it blink in some programming pattern?

Also,  does the Green LED have different meaning on RX vs TX mode.   That is in TX is it just reading an incoming hardwired DMX signal or is it a status that the signal has reached the radio?

Similarly, I'm assuming in RX mode if the LED is blinking it is 'receiving' a signal over the radio.

Thanks
Michael

Lynx Wireless DMX / Re: DMX Pinouts

bcstuff,

Thank you.  That is exactly the info I was looking for.  I'm not modifying any boards, just trying to interconnect everything.  And yes, I'm already running the Ren DMX firmware on all my boards.

Lynx Wireless DMX / DMX Pinouts
« on: May 26, 2011, 09:00:09 pm »
I searched the wiki and can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.  I also can't find schematics to do the lookup.  I hope someone here can answer these.  I just assembled 3 TX/RX Ver2 units and want to hook them up.

1) I am going from the RX/TX to a Renard board.  Renard DMX protocol has Data+ on Pin 5 and Gnd on Pin 1/2 and Data- on Pin 4.  What are the corresponding pins for RJ's DMX equipment?

2) Assuming the RED LED is power and the Green is DMX, does the Green Flash pattern mean anything or is it just a signal present indicator?

Thanks
Michael

Thanks for all the hard work.  You can hold the cat on my order.  I'm highly allergic!   :-)
