Well, that is not good.

I'm waiting on my 128-pixel strings and if your numbers can be extrapolated to mine, then my 20.9' tree will become a 16.7' tree.

Since I won't be able to add pixels, my only solution would be to lop off 4.2' from my tree.
I just went and measured one of my 128 node strings.  It was exactly 40' including the leads.  So you might be ok.

These were 128 node strings.  They all work fine.  I am also planning to use some silicone to seal these up.

I tried posting some pictures in the "Received Smart Strings poor quality" thread....I don't know what I did, but it didn't post them and now I can't see that thread  :(.

Here is a good node and a bad node side by side:

Here is the same bad node at a different angle:

There are a few nodes like this where the only part exposed is right where the wires connect:

I ordered 2 sets of 128 node strings to test them out before ordering more.  I counted 22 or 23 nodes (almost 10%) that were too close to the edge of the mold and had parts exposed.  Out of all of those, there are only about 4 or 5 that I wouldn't feel comfortable with fixing myself.  The rest, i think, can be sealed up good with a little silicone.  I talked to Ray about this, and he said that he is looking for ways to improve the quality of the strings for future orders.  He said he would include some extras with my next order to replace the bad ones that I got this time.  I was happy with this solution, and approved the payment.

I've just received 16 - 75 node smart strings and am a little concerned. The nodes are encased in the clear plastic molding, but as I have been inspecting my order I see that many of the nodes have portions of the circuit boards exposed. Has anyone else seen this, or looked in detail at the nodes? I'm worried that the weather will ruin these and I spent to much to have them die in my rainy northwestern US weather.

About 10% of my nodes are like this.  I am going to use silicon to seal most of them.  I talked to Ray, he said he would replace any that I wasn't happy with.

yeah, you cant fake that, unless it's someone else's number?   lol

Actually, Ray pulled this one on me  >:(.

He sent me a tracking number, and I tracked it all the way to seattle.  It said that it was "with carrier for delivery".    Around 5:00 I hadn't seen it yet, so I checked the DHL website again and this time it said, "please contact DHL".  So I called, and they said that the sender had changed the destination of the package, and it was headed to Illinois  <md...

This all happened last friday.  Ray gave me another tracking number within an hour, and my package showed up monday afternoon (fast shipping!).  Ray also threw a couple extra goodies in the box for my to play with, so it all worked out for me  :D.

I've been playing with smart strings ever since!

They had me sign for mine.  But I talked to DHL before it was delivered, and they said I could leave a signed note on the door if I wasn't going to be home.  You could probably just call there customer service and ask if that would work.

I just chatted with Ray.  He said he is shipping my order right now, and I should have a tracking number in a couple hours.  :D

Nothing new on my order as of yet.  Placed on the 8th still just the "Place Holder" tacking number.
I have 8 days left on the clock to open a dispute.

I'm in the same boat.  I placed my order on March 5th and it still hasn't shipped.  I have talked to Ray on the chat box twice and both times, "I will ship it tomorrow".  The latest from him is that it will ship tonight.  We'll see.  I'm not worried though, they'll come when they come.  I'm at least hoping his quality control has gone up so when it does come it will all be right.  ;D
