Lynx Smart String / Re: WS2811 strings
« on: March 31, 2013, 11:13:28 pm »
I ran ws2811s last year with my v3 modded sscs I used 3 led per 2811 strips that ran on 12volt.  I did have some strings that would work with a different controller I have, but not with the ssc, but the ones that I did have working, worked for the whole month that the display was up without problems.

I have followed this from the beginning and I must say  <res. for the helpful people of this community. and  <res. to you Sittinguphigh for keeping with it until you finally saw the lights (litterally)!

It has happened to me a few. Now I just thread the caps on all pigtails and connectors before I start soldering.

+1 for this.  I also put the heat shrink tubing on all of the wires I plan to solder before picking up the iron.

To do the sequencing I ordered my channels by columns:  1,2,3,55,56,57 and so on.

Then I used a 7x7 font and drew each character out over time.

The sign is driven by a SanDevices E681 which uses E1.31 and already had the protocol for talking to the G35s

I built a horizontal matrix that I am using in my show this year.  It is 18 pixels wide by 8 pixel deep made up of GE ColorEffects G35 strings.

Pixel 1 row 1 is in the upper right. So the first couple rows are like this:

181716151413121110987654321
363534333231302928272625242322212019

Then I used a 7x7 font and drew each character out over time.

I only have 3 songs sequenced so far.  I hope to add some more.  Here is a video of one of them.  Sorry for the quality.  I could not get my regular camcorder to focus to save my life, so this was taken with my cell phone.

Lynx Smart String / Re: Pixelnet active hub connections (SOLVED)

 :-[  :-[  :-[  :-[

I found and fixed the problem!  It helps when the data cable between the two hubs doesn't have one of the ends on backwards  <md..

I redid the end that was wrong, hooked everything back up and  <yk.. Off it went to blinking and flashing!

Now all I have are my arches, little trees, laser, and info sign to get power.

Thanks for the quick responses from everyone!

I brought the errant active hub into the house tonight and it seems to be fine.  I put my spare DSC and it worked exactly like it should no matter which of the 16 ports it was plugged into.  Tomorrow after work, I am going to see if I can connect the pixelnet up exactly the way that it should be outside to see if that makes any difference.

Just as a reminder, Once you successfully program the starting channel for the SSC, if you hook it back up the pickit 3 and read it, the checksum will have changed.  This is because the start channel is stored in the PIC so changing the starting address will change the checksum.

Yeah, I call it my mini mega.  12 strings of 21 pixels each.

and then 27 channels of DSC's on the roof line.

When I get home, I am going to pull hub 2 into the house and test it inside again. I will check the fuses and all that.  I have a couple spare SSC and one spare DSC.

Thanks for confirming that my setup should be working as is.

Lynx Smart String / Pixelnet active hub connections (SOLVED)
« on: November 28, 2012, 08:04:38 pm »
I am having some trouble with my pixel tree.  When I tested it in the house, I had the ether dongle connected to one active hub set to pixelnet universe 1.  when I setup stuff outside, I have two active hubs.  Both of them are set to pixelnet universe 1.  The first one has 9 DSC controllers hooked up to it with starting addresses of 1269 to 1296 and it seems to be working just fine.  The ether dongle (flashed with the pixelnet firmware) is connected to the pixelnet input on this hub.  The second hub is connected from one of the pixelnet out of hub 1 to the pixelnet in on hub 2.  I have 12 SSC's connected to hub 2 with starting addresses from 513 to 1206.  None of the smart strings are responding.  Both hubs have the power light on.

My question is if my setup should work.  Can both hubs be set to pixelnet universe 1?

Thanks

John

Arch 1 will have starting address of 1
each node requires 3 channels (1 each for Red Green Blue) x 30 Nodes = 90 channels per arch.
   Arch 1 Node 1 Red (address 1)
   Arch 1 Node 1 Green (address 2)
   Arch 1 Node 1 Blue (address 3)
   Arch 1 Node 2 Red (address 4)
etc. etc. etc.

Arch 2 will have starting address of 91
Arch 3 will have starting address of 181
Arch 4 will have starting address of 271

Candy Cane 1 starting address 401   (these only use 24 channels each 8 nodes x 3 channels)
Candy Cane 2 starting address 425
Candy Cane 3 starting address 449
Candy Cane 4 starting address 473
Candy Cane 5 starting address 497
Candy Cane 6 starting address 521
Candy Cane 7 starting address 545
Candy Cane 8 starting address 569

Present 1 sa 601 (These will only use 6 channels per present)
Present 2 sa 607
Present 3 sa 613
Present 4 sa 619
Present 5 sa 625
Present 6 sa 631
Present 7 sa 637
Present 8 sa 643

Hope that helps you some.

Vixen / Re: Theory of/on sequencing
« on: November 06, 2012, 06:13:57 pm »
Something that I have been doing with my Nutcracker generated .vir files is use the vixen add-ons that are suggested on the page that has the .vir file for download.  The one I use a bunch so far is the vixen routine loader.  It asks for the starting channel to insert at as well as what time to insert at.  I just insert starting at channel 513 which is the first channel of my tree.
