The Porch / Re: Another season down
« on: January 08, 2024, 12:12:57 pm »
I don't even have the fancy EXPRESSES, I've been trotting out the OG Lynx controllers! I may ADD a new express next year though, getting all fancy :) (and a freestyle with some SUPER OG (pre lynx ssrs)!

Another season down. Dragged out the old reliable stuff and it just worked, AGAIN.

Thanks again, RJ, for making this possible!

I feel the same way, I still trot my collection of original LYNX controllers out each year, along with the freestyle and some even OLDER ssrs. I've only ever had self-induced issues, or the occasional loss of a start channel that requires me to flail around to get it reset.

I really miss the group that was here back in the day, though i didn't actively communicate much, i sure read everything posted.

The show gets harder and harder to put out every year, but that's not due to the tech behind it, someone keeps moving the ground further from where I am, at least that's what it feels like!

Thanks RJ, for making this possible and sharing with the rest of us. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

I'll agree for sure! I had to reset the starting address on my Freestyle, and was glad to see the hex address location hack for it.

The Porch / Re: 2019 Shows Still Using Lynx
« on: January 20, 2020, 04:19:20 pm »
You're not alone. I still have 5 ORIGINAL Lynx controllers that I trot out season after season. Also still use a freestyle and some old 4-channel ssr things from BEFORE Lynx was a thing.

Updated to xlights a couple of years ago, and added some pixels using Falcon and Pi to run things now, but no reason to get rid of the LED string-based elements of the display! You don't have to pick one OR the other!

I've got one that I've only used for testing, assembled but not in an enclosure.
$40 shipped?

That makes me feel a little better knowing that I'm not the only one. Debated turning on the green lights for St. Patricks day....

Out in the yard taking things down finally. The glaciers moved in and buried all the equipment in a foot or more of snow and ice. Just now got down to where I could get stuff out!
Yaay Northern Illinois.

The Porch / Appreciation
« on: December 16, 2013, 02:11:53 pm »
There was a knock on our door Sunday morning, and a sweet little girl gave us a handmade card and cookies as a thank you for doing the light show. How cool is that?

So thanks RJ and everyone else who puts effort into this hobby that allow the rest of us to get free cookies sometimes!

The Porch / Splitting For Sale / Trade
« on: September 24, 2012, 10:50:58 am »
Would it be possible to split the For Sale / Trade forum into a Want to Buy / For Sale sections?
Just a suggestion to make it a little easier to find things, since there have been so many "wanted" posts lately.

Thanks a ton for running this site and all you do!

Mike

I'd be willing to help out with what I can, I can't solder all that stuff up for you, but I'd be willing to help you get started on it. I'm about 90 miles NW of Chicago if you're interested.
