Where is everybody??
« on: March 19, 2014, 03:45:52 pm »
I know that this is a slow time of the year, but this is ridiculous! I've even been gone for a few days and nothing new to read. I guess I need to get a life!  <fp.  ;D

I wondered this too!  I'm only into this hobby for a couple months.  I'd think there would be so many more comments, talks about improvements, ideas for new stuff, other fun subjects.

The awesome thing is that there's lots of great info already here.  So, although not too many new posts, you guys have been amazing with any questions I've had.  Wish I could personally contribute more, but I'm learning.  I'd only confuse the issue ;)

Working on the layout of my new spiral tree.

Cutting SPT2 wire, installing vampire plugs and tinning the ends for the 3 LE's on their way.

Sequencing, sequencing and sequencing.

Out in the yard taking things down finally. The glaciers moved in and buried all the equipment in a foot or more of snow and ice. Just now got down to where I could get stuff out!

I just got everything put away 2 weekends ago. Need to dig some stuff out that I buried and try to sell. No room left!  <fp. Been working on completely reorganizing 2 sheds and my garage. Have plans in my head for next years show, but have not started anything yet.

I have stuff up from last year still. Mostly candy canes in front lawn frozen in. Will get up to 40 today so maybe in a week I can pull them out.

As for slow around here. I've been doing kitchen renos and just starting to dabble in a little experiment with the EDM rds chip.  If I get that working I'll post some updates.

That makes me feel a little better knowing that I'm not the only one. Debated turning on the green lights for St. Patricks day....

If you have them up might as well use them.

Just finished soldering up my new ATX boards.  Well, except for the LEDs...  I am sooo ignorant of these components..  Had to ask David which lead is positive...

My 80 year old father has been "working his butt off" ... which means he's completed the enhancements to the 17' 1/2 megatree (which was new in 2013).

And as most of you would already know, men of that generation don't use that term often.

The enhancements were as follows:

(1) Added beveled PVC clips to the entire external structure, so attaching the 48 verticals is now purely "snap on" (not more zip ties or wires !!)
(2) Added a reinforced "spine" to the main pole so there is absolutely no bend anymore
(3) Added a few other structural improvements (bigger rebar on a couple places that bent the first year).
(4) Straightened out the main pole before #2.

He also has obtained all the parts and completed the design for (2) new 1/2 megatrees (to replace my mini light trees) which will have 24 10' vertical rgb(s) each.
His new design will allow these two smaller tilt-up 1/2 megatrees to be built fairly quickly in the next month, also using the PVC clips to attach conduit quickly.

We also ordered all the lights for 2014 -- and Ray said they should ship by Saturday (tomorrow) !!

Any way you can expound on the "PVC Clips"  I like the idea I just can't envision what your talking about...
