RGB LED strips - comparisons

Hey folks I'm trying to make some stars using yard sticks I got from Home Depot.  While the stars are not assembled I'm toying with lighting them up with RGB instead of incans / led strings.

So I'm looking at Holiday Coro's RGB LED strips instead of their modules (rectangle / square).  For $50 (give or take) you can get from him about 16 ft. 6 in. worth of LED's.

I'm looking on E-Bay for some and found a couple different types from obviously different countries.  Anyone else using something they found on ebay?

So my question is are these the same?  Will they work with the Holiday Coro DMX controller?  If you have any experience please share.  Or experience with something else that I can research and price out to use.

holiday coro link mentions 30 leds per meter, both of the other two links are 60 leds per meter

They work fine and are well built. I haven't hooked them up to DMX yet though.

Yes I noticed the density of LED's from what I found compared to what Holiday Coro has.

Robert any idea if / when you'll be hooking those up to DMX?  That's a good price.  Too bad I couldn't get those without the controller and stuff in hopes to knock the price down some more.

What is everyone using for power supplies?  I like the one from Holiday Coro but it's limited to the number of amps obviously.  I'd like to be able to get a higher output power supply just to reduce the number of 120 VAC connections made (and extension cords).  I know you can push just so much power through Cat 5 cable but I could split the power amongst a couple of Cat 5 cables to help reduce the power on those cables.

If you go to the wiki and look under DSC light order chart, go to the last one and click on it and it will link you to different flex options. for example, the lights you posted in your first link (LED RGB Strip 30 LEDs per Meter Waterproof IP68 ) I bought 10 rolls at 10.50 each. There are also so different options to control them. You could use an MR 16, or a dsc.

I did the wiki but the one auction has expired. I bid on another just to test. It's a U.S.A seller. Yeah I know the come from Hong Kong or China but still.  With any luck these will work for the fraction of the cost.

Any updates on the Ebay sources?  Need a few strip lights as well for some DSC's I have coming, would like to maybe have something for 4th of July if an etherdongle comes along for co-op.

I decided I am going to use smart strips this year. So I won't be playing with the dumb/DMX.

I edited the previous post. DLA does not allow outright advertising for commercial vendors.

I am not happy with all the alibaba links I see posted either as they are also commerical. I understand the intend in most cases but if we do it for one then how can I prevent others from doing the same. It becomes a ugly issue fast. This is a difficult issues and has always been an issue.

Would someone mind pm'ing me who Todd is and where?  Trying to get a handle on these strips, one member found several at $10.50 each, I only find them in the low 20's for RGB 5050 with 60 leds a meter.

I went to ebay for a few minutes and found several strips( 30 leds per meter) under 10.00. It could be how you are entering it on the site
