Update 002 -- 01/19/2013

Major Activity:
 - Opened COOP
 - Receiving Membership.  204 so far.  Remember this closes when 46 more orders are received or by tomorrow at 8pm so don't wait!
 

Awaiting:
 - Membership to close
 - Get quotes from vendors
 - Finalize pricing
 - Figure out packaging (poly bags, anti-static, foam, labeling, padding, wrapping, boxing)
 - Send out payment notices
 - All members pay
 - Finalize membership
 - Order USPS flat rate boxes
 - Order PCBs and Heatsinks
 - Order parts from Mouser
 - Order shipping supplies
 - Receipt of all items
 - Sorting
 - Shipping
 - Close out COOP

Some notes: 

I will try to post one of these updates weekly.
I will ship in the units out in the order in which I receive CONFIRMED payment notices from paypal.  That means if you are quick to respond when payment notices go out with your payment, you will be one of the first to receive your equipment when the parts and PCBs are received.

For those who are new to the COOPs,

If you look at my above update, you will see quite a few items under the 'awaiting' category.  This is basically the steps still needed to finish out the COOP.  Here is a timeline of how long things typically take:

Open for orders - 2 weeks
Finalize pricing - 2 days
Send out payment notices - 4 days
Member pay - 1 week (receive all money)
Order PCBs/Heatsinks and parts and supplies - 2 weeks - 1 month (dependent on backorders etc.  Can go longer if backorders are huge)
Confirm receipt of items (1 day)
Printing, sorting, packaging - 2 weeks
Shipping - 1 week

So you see that the overall process from a COOP lasts anywhere from 2 - 3 months approximately.  From the time you actually pay in Paypal to the time you receive equipment is quite a bit of time as well.  This can be 1-2 months of time (again dependent on many factors).  The key is to be patient.  This is done all on volunteer time and I don't get paid to do it--not that I mind doing it. 

I use the update messages (like the one above) to keep you all informed of where we are in the COOP.

I have figured out packaging and labeling last night.  It is going to require over 3000 labels and baggies and ESD bags.  The parts count is in the tens of thousands (32,224 at last count) each of which is sorted, tagged, and bagged.  This will take some time to accomplish.
