coro plastic tree
« on: May 25, 2013, 02:24:18 pm »
Ok so in trying to keep this obsession thrifty to keep a happy wife, i came across 30x36 in sheets of coro plastic at the local big box hardware store.  I said to my self "huh, thats the stuff that web site sells."  (Yes i said it out loud!)  Lol...   so i pick it up got home and started measuring and cutting.  These are gonna be 15" tall by 8" wide. I am going to go to the dollar store and pick up some cheap square flower pots for these to "sit on " to make them appear a little taller.  Plan is to use the new lynx expresses i picked up in the coop (thanks kurt!) To use 1 color per channel.  I will have 2 colors in each tree (blue and white).  I can make 4 trees per sheet which was $7.  Which makes that cost $1.75 plus $1 for the flower pot = $2.75 per tree (plus  the feel good feeling of coarse!)  Lol...

i like your idea. i bought a cone style grinding bit set for a drill at harbor freight for 3 bucks to make the holes for the lights. once you figure out your depth, put a piece of tape on the cone to get your depth set so you dont' make it too big. you can also get coro at your local sign shop for 10-12 bucks fora 4x8 sheet if you plan on doing more coro. just a thought.

Coro from the local sign shop... now THERE'S an idea that hadn't occurred to me.  I've been looking at the big box stores and none of them seem to have what I'm looking for.  They are either too small, have a black side, or some such rot.

Thanks for the idea Duane!

I tried this over the weekend. Not happy with the results.

Tried  making six sides and well not the best.

I should try a 4 sided and see.

Guess I just wasn't excited with the overall look.

I also tried the box that is on the site and I wasn't thrilled with that look either.  It's cool and all but not sure I would add em to my display.

I have some other things to try first before I make a decision either way.
