Ray 3 channel controller issue **RESOLVED**
« on: August 16, 2013, 01:11:48 pm »
**Resolved**Last year I purchased some 3 channel controllers and dumb 50/50 modules from ray. I think I have them hooked up correctly but I'm not 100% sure. Can someone check out this picture and help me determine the problem. I can get power to them but am having trouble getting the DMX address set and having them respond to the signal. Thanks in advance.**resolved**

After thinking some more I disabled my power injector and realized that I used a cat5 cable I had laying around and the wires didn't match up for DMX signal. DUH!!!

Are you sending dmx?
Did you ask ray to set start address or is it default?
If default, probably channel 1,2,3
I would try to turn in all channels to start with and see if it responds at all then try to narrow it down

Setting start channel in these controllers may require a special programmer
How are you attempting to set the start address?

a number of things...

It looks like you are using the "holiday coro" wiring scheme for power over cat5... is that what you are thinking as well?  (pixelnet scheme is pins 3-5 for 12v+ and 6-8 for ground....  holidaycoro is white+color for 12v+ and all solid for ground)

its hard to see the board info...  so I'm guessing at what I am seeing -- but:  if the bottom-left solder point is labelled DMX-  and the one next to it labelled DMX+ then you are fine.  I suspect that it is DMX+ to the left.  The white+orange is your DMX+ and the solid orange is your DMX-.

since your board is not using jumpers to set an address, you will need a programmer -- or special software which MIGHT be available to set your address.

Without knowing your starting channel, you can still generate blinky by using xlights to send DMX to ALL channels.  Once you know that the wiring is right, then you can narrow down the channels being sent data in xlights until you find the right channels for that board.

Thanks for the input Steve...I am using Holidaycoro wiring as I started this project before smart strings were around :-(  Just now getting back to it to try and figure out how to complete it for this season.  I actually had wired everything correctly according to the wire, but didn't realize that the cat5 cable that I was using wasn't stadard and didn't have orange/orangewhite as the first and second pin.  Once I fixed my power injector/data line, everything worked like a charm!!  Thanks for the help!
