FYI I got some c9 samples from Ray (It took 3 attempts for him to remember to include them in my order). Bottom line is don't waste your money on these. They are completely clear like a regular clear c9 bulb. They are not faceted and don't diffuse the pisel light at all.

Yeah you couldn't even tell the covers were on the leds at night. Needs some kind of faceting to spread out the light.

I would say the acrylic would need to be right up against the top of the pixel to be useful, or the base of the cover would need to be at the end. I bought some C9 leds at Sams club last year, were the cover look just like these but they screw onto the base and the led is at the very bottom, they worked fairly well, although I didn't think they were quite bright enough. To make these work better, the inside would need to be solid, and have a concave base that the pixel could connect to.

I aslo noticed that it cost more to ship them then to by them and if you use a fat carrier like DHL, the cost is much more.  I was looking foward to someone coming out with covers like this but there are not what I was looking for.  They either need to be lightly frosted or faceted to distribute the light with an acceptable shipping cost.

Look the same as the covers for the walmart c-9 LED's....completely useless on the RGB pixels

I talked to Ray last night and he says he has a source for the faceted covers.  He is sending me some samples.  If they will work for the nodes I will let everyone know.  I might be able to do some sort of group buy.  I cannot coop since I have not been here for a year yet.  We will have to see if they will work and go from there.

Doesn't the cover really need to be opaque?
Like the way some people have used vinyl dryer hose for leaping light arches?

Depends upon what you want your result to look like. A faceted cover is going to be "twinklely," while an opaque cover is going to be "soft."

D. Moore observed in his daytime video that many of his audience wanted more "twinklely" stuff and less "soft" stuff.

I think there's room for both in a show, but it is an aesthetic decision, not an engineering decision.

Could one not lightly "frost" the cover with a light coat of white paint to get some dispersion?  Might need to try varying intensities to get the right amount though and might not be very consistent.  But if you don't like them clear, it might be worth a shot.

what if you filled the C9 cover about half full of epoxy, then pushed the pixel into the goo? You would get diffusion of the light PLUS extreme waterproofing as the goo sealed the ends.

You could also try etching the plastic.  there are many cleaners and some chemicals that don't get along all that well with some plastics and will turn them a little milky which should do a good job at diffusing the light and looking like an old fashion painted C9 which os exactly what I would like to see.

That's true.  Sunlight even has that same effect on alot of clear plastics.  Could try a clear silicon as well.
