Ok, I've searched and gave up.  I know I've read it somewhere....
Which side of the node is IN and which side is OUT...  The side with the controller chip is what I think I remember as being IN...
Is that correct?

Yes the side with the larger chip is the IN side of the node

This is correct, it is in the wiki in one of the documents.
